I'm sorry to say that I've been getting laser for more than 2 years now.
For me it's not working, after a year and a half I stopped and let it grow because the little hairs would pop up and at a certain point they would be all over like fine baby hair. When I let it all grow all my hair came back.
But I didn't like it so I decided to go back even more because it still made shaving easier because the hair was lighter.
I have gotten it down to a science where I can be completely hair free for approximately 3 weeks with no growth. I go for a treatment, then go for another exactly one week later. (This is not the norm for laser, but my person gave it a try because they also feel bad that all my hair comes back.) It works for me, but it's pricey to keep up. I'd almost considered stopping completely but at the same time I feel I've already spent all this money that it's almost like an investment.

Welcome (back), Deviant Magic!
Sorry that the razor is not working for you, and lasering isn't working out like you are hoping for (at least from the $$$) but if the laser treatments are painful and still not working, have you considered an epilator? While painful at first, if used properly, the epilator will kill the roots of the hair and eventually the hair will grow back fine....Just a suggestion....

I have had laser hair removal on my neck, back, cheeks, shoulders, upper arms, chest, thighs, etc. ( I was a real Wookie!)
It only works on hairs that still have color, (grey) It is painful on my neck, cheeks, ear arches, etc. The beard and head hairs are the toughest and it really hurts when the laser zaps those. My technician says that she has had several guys ask about having their heads done but none of them have gone through with it - so she doesn't know how successful it would be or how many sessions it would take.

Hello everyone. I have been doing laser hair removal on my scalp. I live in NYC. So far, I am a week away from my 5th session. I go for a session every 4 weeks. I bought a package that came with 6 sessions. But the laser specialist believes that I need a lot more sessions. And I can tell myself. So far, the shadow is less noticeable and lighter. The hair barely grows. Mostly thin baby hair/peach fuzz. But in some patchy areas, it still grows. My 6th and last session from the package will be in April. At the moment, I don't have enough money to buy more sessions. But, I was considering taking a break from April all the way till October. It's extremely sunny where I live. I go out a lot, and I'm an athletic person. I run track 5 times a week. It's like a dessert/beach on the track field. The head is exposed to the sun 24/7. My head has been protected because I wear a hat during the winter. But during the spring/summer I wouldn't want to wear a hat. I asked the laser specialist why the skin cannot be exposed to the sun. She told me that the sun might burn the skin and create scars. That would suck. The laser Specialist recommended me to take a 2 month break. I haven't asked her about this yet. But I would like to get an opinion from you guys. Is a 6 month gap too much? I'm very happy with my results so far and I don't want to sabotage anything. I know the hair will grow back, but will I maintain the thinner hairs and weaker shadow during that time?

Same with Tattoo removal with a Laser. I had some treatment last year and was told to stop during summer because of the tanning etc. Not started it again as the pain is bad!! lol

I'm concerned and worried if this 6 month gap will ruin everything. And I really hate the shadow. And shaving is so much quicker and easier. And it does make sense to take a break. But is 6 months too much?

I'd say yes, it's too much, as those hairs will become stronger next time and you might lose what you've already invested.
I've done the 14-th session today, and perhaps will do another one or two. As I think I reached the point of diminishing returns. This summer it will be 2 years since I started. There's no shadow, and shaving takes a minute, but peach fuzz is there and I think it's hard to get rid of it completely. I hope the shadow won't be back, and I didn't see it for a year.
Anyway I like the result, as it's so easy to maintain. And it looks better. I do dancing and I watched the videos, and I think it looks neat and not as old. The shadow is not that nice you know. And you can't shave it off. That what I hated about it. And when it grew a bit, it looked even worse.
As it's recession in my country, I pay only 30 bucks for the whole head (it was 100 2 years ago). Good deal!
But I don't know.. I think it's not for everybody. If I had a bit more diffuse pattern, at least NW5, and not so harsh transition at the back (really thick hairs growing fast), I wouldn't go for it. I'd just shave, as who knows... maybe there's a multiplication or treatment in 10 years. But I understood that my hair story is over with NW7 and thick hairs at the back! Now I like it so much more, and it looks much tidier and not as old.

@fewef thank you very much. And the reason I am doing laser hair removal, is because my shadow is too strong, and it ruins the purpose of shaving. I have been shaving against the grain for a year. And I always cut myself and get bumps. Ever since I have done laser hair removal, the shadow is less noticeable, and no bumps or cuts when I shave. But I have got to say, I'm very depressed to hear that 6 months is too long of a break. Where I'm at, it's $650 for a package of 6 sessions.

I just want to thank all the members who have ahared their experiences and have taken the time to come back and give occasional updates. I've always struggled with folliculitis. Between steroids for asthma treatment and high antibiotic useage due to a penicillin allergy, I haven't been able to figure out how to keep it under control. I started wet shaving and using a safety razor, but it almost seems like it's gotten worse. I have another dermatologist appointment next week and I plan to ask about laser treatments to get rid of it without the repeated antibiotics.

After how many days after a session can you expose your head to the sun without using sunblock? I have read as early as 1 week, to as late as 1 month.

Its sad when i read about people choosing laser treatment because they dont like the 'shadow' when bald. It is something that will diminish as your hair gets lighter / turns grey.
Each to their own i know and i wish you all the best.
For me, its a matter of just loving being bald even though i have a shadow!

It depends on the individual. Some people are lucky and don't have much of a shadow, while others, have an extremely noticeable shadow, where even the best "Against The Grain" shave wouldn't do much to hide it. I hated my shadow so much, because it revealed my hairline. The whole reason I went bald was to avoid my hairline. Some shadows are so strong, that it almost looks like hair. I honestly think Laser hair removal is very worth it. Especially because it makes shaving much easier, and helps avoid ingrown hairs, razor burn and cuts. All those benefits, on top of making the shadow weaker. Very worth it, in my opinion.

Greetings to all! I came across to say my epilation journey is finished, as I'm satisfied with the results. It's been more than 2 months since last session, and the growing hair is very mild, I can barely see it with a closeup photo. No shadow at all. So it took me almost 2 years, though I must say after the 4-th session the results were prominent (no shadow for a long time). After the first treatment I felt much better, as I hated the shadow much. It was very thick and was a reminder that I don't choose it and can't control.
Now I can shave once in 1-2 weeks, those hairs grow very short and not noticeable. I can dry-shave it without problem. Maybe they will become thicker with time, who knows. But I just see the epilation indeed works and works well, as it eliminated 99% of hair.
Not anyway "I'm happy" with being bald, but shadow forms your face and head perception also. When I look at shaved heads, the first thing I look if I can see the horseshoe, as it's different worlds. And when I see someone with a horseshoe, I understand the person does it but not necessary enjoys it.
I can only recommend it to those, who are past 30's, have NW6+, and are tired of shaving everyday and cutting head. Also, it seems my head shines less as I don't have to wash it as often, so it affects the shining.

@fewef I'm glad to hear. I finished my 6th session last month. I'm taking a 5-6 month break because it's summer and the sun is always shining. I'm happy with my results, but I am left with a few patches. Mostly in the back.
