Help,, bumpy head now
« on: October 14, 2008, 08:27:17 PM »
OK folks it's been 3weeks plus that I took it all off. It was all good until a few days ago, got the "folickitis" seen in another thread. Blade was three or four shaves old, I exfoliate everyday with something wifey had,  then a wash with left over shampoo, shave with Slick Head, against the grain, using a  Clearasil pimple remover she has since the breakout. (all in a hot shower)

This am started shaving with the grain (hated it) while other wise keeping the same routine. I got all my HB stuff today, Head Shed, Clear Head, and Head Lube (was using just some lotion I have). Do you think the HB product will be better than the Avon and Clearasil stuff, allowing me to go back to against the grain?

I did try to go over my melon today with my Braun, waste of time, and my old Norelco shaver,, (uses some lotion in it) it was better but still not as smooth.

It is 15hrs since I shaved it,, and it still has bumps,, they are just not as red,,, looks much better than it has for the last few days.

Opinions?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom!

I'd give the Clear Head a try for a few days to see what happens.  After you shave, it would'nt hurt to use some witch hazel on you noggin prior to using the Clear Head. O0

You might want to try an antibiotic soap like Clean & Clear foaming facial wash, since most acne (bumps) are caused by bacteria, and keep your head and especially your hands clean, since most of us can't keep our hands off our heads.

"Clearasil Ultra daily face wash"  is the stuff I am using.  I have to think it is directly relating to shaving against the grain,, head looks even better this am. I will probably go with the grain this am, and then try again against the grain.

I still have been head rubbing so I don't think that is it,, but good thought though!! O0

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom!

As BW says Tom, give the witch hazel a shot and see if that helps....

Witch Hazel,,,,I use a clear bottle, no pads no nothing, just squirt it on my head and ruuuuub it in  :)
Put a towel on your pillow,,,,change it out every other night. I did that when I first started shaving, and helped on the outbreaks. Don't seem to need it any more. I think as time goes by your scalp becomes less sensitive. Seems like it to me anyway.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

Totally agree, Tor, of all the products I've used the cheap, easy to get WitchHazel is one of the most effective products to deter breakouts and irritation.  I just hate the scent, but once I've had it on my scalp a few minutes I rinse it off.

Hey Tor

Curious about the towel on the pillow thing.  Could you enlighten me about why, when & how long for? As I shave in the morning would it serve any purpose for my noggin later that night?

Cheers

I just did it because it kept my pillow clean, instead of changing the pillowcase so often. A dirty pillowcase is a factor in developing bumps, specially when you first start out shaving your head. In my case, it helped a lot.

Read some of the self care guidlines for bumps,,,or folliculitis:

Could be a useful accessory for me as I use panoxyl gel on my head post shaving & before bed at night. It stains the pillow cases & anything else it comes in contact with so the towel on the pillow is something I will definitely try out. O0

Thanks Tor!
