I remember being in dry dock at Todd's Shipyards in Seattle, Washington and touring Rainer brewery in 1973 or 1974.....I believe the brewery closed in the late 90's sometime...
I think the Brewmaster's image was not in use by the 70s; though I may be mistaken. Hey Marsh, do you remember this guy?
John
Back in the good ol' 70's, when I was first starting to loose hair, it seemed that all the sly guys in Hollywood (other than Brynner and Savalas) were character actors who played bouncers, bikers or criminals. It took quite a while for that image to change.
Most definitely, Gordon (Roscoe Orman) from Sesame Street!
How about Jack Johnson, 1st black heavy weight champion.

The recently departed Isaac Hayes.
Cool !! who could forget to include Issac Hayes. What are the dates of Jack Johnson???

John, I do kind of remember him. But it took my memory being nudged! BTW, John, did you used to live in Seattle since you know about Rainier Beer?
Since we are talking about Seattle, one of the first sly guys I remeber besides Telly and Yul is former Seattle Supersonic, Slick Watts!
It seems that most of the sly guys of the past were African-American. But just thought of one other person who was sly. Or he probably wore a bald wig. That would be David Carridene (did I spell that right?). You might remember him from the show, "Kung Fu".

He only appeared bald in the show a couple of times -- I think one of the times was the last episode (or one of the last). He really did shave his head, which was highly unusual for the time. The actor who played him as a kid was bald throughout the series. Not sure if he was shaved or wearing a bald wig. I'm guessing it was a bald wig. Not too many kids in the 70s would have been willing to sport a shaved head for the duration of a 3 or 4 year long televsion series.

I grew up in southwestern Montana; so the great northwestern brew Raineer beer was sold there (I think I've even seen signs for it in Denver!) . Anyway; Seattle was always thought of a Mecca for us; the nearest really big city (12 hr drive for me); LOTS of people my age (and later too, I imagine) migrated there after high school .
