adoption!
« on: October 09, 2008, 06:55:54 AM »
so i found a dog that needs a home since the storms that recently came through here. one of the guys that work with me has a dog that was given to him and he wants to find it a good home. since i have been wanting a dog anyway, this was an easy decision. i am adopting a registered weimaraner. i will find out the age and stuff when i get him and the papers. looks like i have some work to do. he is gonna need some training. but it will give me someone to hang out with. any advice on this is welcomed.

Nice looking dog Paulie, my sister had one that looked just like it and his name was Astro. I always called him A$$ hole because of the dumb things he would do. Good luck with the dog and it's nice of you to give him a home.... O0

Paulie-

I did dog rescue for a lot of years (Greyhounds) but I consequently learned a bit about a lot of breeds.

Weimeraners are know for having tons of energy. This is a dog that you will have to exercise a lot. Walks or whatever. Especialy if he's young.
They also are a little hard headed..... which some people mistake for dumbness. I'm not sure if they are "chewers".
They are loyal and make very good pets if you can deal with the energy level.

If the dog isn't house trained, I would recommend borrowing or buying a crate. A crate may be a good idea anyway if he needs some training. Crates, when used properly, are excellent tools for a lot of reasons.

If you want to know more about crates..... what to get and how to use it..... PM and we can talk.

Good luck with your new friend.......and patience my friend is key.

That's one beautiful dog.

i already started looking for a crate. my dalmation was crate trained and it worked wonders. maybe he will be my motivation to get my ass in some shape other than round.

Look on line for a crate...... some places have pretty good deals..... a lot of people sell them cheap at yard sales too.

Weimaraners sure are hyper dogs.  Two friends had one and both would drive me nuts.  We have two labs.  The chocolate is very calm.  He only barks if you scare him.  The yellow likes to be the center of attention and lets you know if she feels left out.  And her barking drives me crazy.
