As part of my job I meet people at various locations and I ran into a gent that had all these punchhole scars on the back of his head. I knew what they were but never had the audacity to ask him about them. Ive met others and have usually gotten no response.
I finally did and he and I chatted. He had 5,000 hair tranplants form 1970-1980 including scars on the back of his scalp (like I do) and scars around his ears and sides.
He started to shave his head 5 years ago. At one point, he started wearing a wig. From far away, you don't notice. But from 10 feet or so, you know.
My main reason to chat with him was to find out if he had dermabrasion on his scars. He didn't and even after hair tranplants, he had to dye his hair because his hair had turned white (when he reached say 55). His tp's were more obvious as his hair turned white.
The message is this: (1) To get rid of hair tranplants is next to impossible. I was fortunate to call it quits after 2 procedures. I suffered horribly later on. (2) His cost over 10 years: $20,000. (3) It looks pretty bad close up as he uses a Vitamin E derivative on his head to make the scars look smoother.
We're all better off going bald and not letting this happen. Whatever we can do here to help people NOT make a tp decision is well worth our time and effort.
Marty, great post on the horrors of hair transplants. Hopefully anyone who is considering getting any will see your post !! Thanks for sharing !!
Great post Marty! I have an Uncle that obsessed over his hair loss 25 years ago... he has those same scars. He's been SLY for almost 20 years now but you can still see those scars.
If you are reading this thread and are considering transplants, please take a lesson from Marty's original post in this thread.
I realize now that I was lucky that I gave up the idea of more tp's when I did.
Thanks Marty, I hope more people learn about the risks of transplants, do those things ever have a good outcome?
How big would you say the dermal punch scars are? (the body mod weirdo in me finds in interesting.)
