First time with Headblade
« on: October 03, 2008, 06:30:38 PM »
I was excited to try the HB after reading many of the posts on here. I just finished with the HB. I think I went to long without shaving, so my first experience wasn't great. I usaully shave every other day, but for some reason, I didn't shave for about 4 days.

My question is this: What method is best for shaving your sides? Do you go up and down or side to side on your sides?

Thanks guys!

I am not a HB user, but I believe most guys go with the grain and against the grain. That means up and down in both directions. I don't know how many guys go sideways or back and forth on the sides. I use an electric to do my sides and back  and a fusion on the top so I can't give you any advice on the HB. If you check out the shaving section on the forum I am sure you will find the answer your looking for, or someone that is a HB user will eventually answer your question....Good Luck....

CoyoteGuy,
First off, welcome.

I've changed my routine up a few times and have finally found the best way for me...
1. Make sure the skin is good and warm.
2. Apply HeadSlick (I mix it with Bald Guyz Shave Gel).
3. Start with the back in the center at the base of my neck and go against the grain, to the crown of my head.
4. work toward the ear on both sides, being careful right above the ear.
5. Flip it around and go front to back, starting in the center front & work towards the ears.
6. Touch up with Schick Extreme3.

I never go up & down on the side of the head with the HeadBlade. I think it'd be to easy to do a "wheelie" with the HB, causing cuts.

Coyote,
Before I use my headblade I use my Mach 3 and go around my ears. I start the back of the ear at the neck and go up and around to the sideburn area. Then I go up the sideburn area.
After that I proceed with my headblade and go against the grain all over, which includes going up the sides out my head from neck to the crown. I also run it up from the sideburn area to the area above my forhead. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the blade or you will get skinned!

Welcome to the Forum Coyote!!

I go front to back when shaving the sides......... then I flip the HB around and go back to front.

On my sides I go from front to back, and then back to front (so basically side to side).   Make sure you lube up after each pass.

Also, with the HeadBlade, you should try different blades to find out which one works best for you.  For me, it was the Gillette Sensor blades.  Others it's the HB or Atra blades.

I also do the sides same way as Tyler and Mike. I do a few passes front to back, then I go from back to front.
I do prefer the Atra as my top blade, but I do use the Sensor's and the HB doubles and triples to change it up.

Just remember, no pressure on the blade end and you'll be fine.
