Who's your favorite bass player?
« on: October 01, 2008, 12:13:26 AM »
In perusing the posts over the past few weeks, I know we have quite a few bass players on the site, as well as musicians who play other instruments, and plenty of music lovers in general.
As for me, it's the instrument I've always wanted to learn to play.

So, guys & gals - whose bass playing are YOU really into?

That would be Les Claypool, and he's one of my favorites, too  O0
He's also the bass player in about a gazillion "side projects" too.

I'll throw in a few of my faves (The list is long!) from some different styles of music, since Rock has been well represented so far -

Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Solo artist)
Stanley Clarke

and from the rock school

Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
and
Stefan Lessard (Dave Mathews Band)

Les is one of my favorites also.  His Oysterhead side project was pretty cool.

It almost had to be! Les, Trey Anastasio, and Stewart Copeland in the same band? The amount of talent is staggering! O:O

Yeah, that combined talent is out of this world.  Their music is awesome, but I don't think it translated very well on to CD.  I saw them live at the Greek Theater in Berkeley and it was awesome!

Yeah! Stanley Clarke and Flea. I saw Stanley Clarke with Chick Corea and Return to Forever in '77 (oh sh*t, did I just date myself?)
