So... it's insane how significant hair is to who we are. Most of my adolescent life I had very long hair... down to the middle of my back. I cut it short around 18 and by 20 it was evident that "thinning" was becoming "balding", so I started shaving my head.
I've always had image issues with it and I go through phases where I grow it back out... though the extreme MPB adds a decade to my age and sucks away my confidence. I'm 28 right now. Reading through this forum has been helping me come to the decision to get rid of it all again and be confident with that decision.
Thanks, guys.
Here's a pic of what my head looks like now... it's depressing...

Hey Man! I'm a musician too - what do you play/do? I play with the NC Symphony Orchestra. Clarinet/bass clarinet. Just look for the shiny bald head somewhere near the harp, lol! Hope to see your new sly look soon.

Hey Musician.... Welcome to the Forum!
Dude..... if you look younger without the MPB the choice should be easy.

Welcome to the SBG forums, Musician! You'll find a ton of support here, should your decision be to go Sly - and if not, well, this is still a pretty dang cool buncha guys to exchange witty repartee with anyhow! I hope you'll feel as "at home" here as I've been made to feel

Welcome Musician!!!...from a fellow musician (drummer). What were your issues when you shaved your head? Looking younger is one of the best benifits of going SLY.

Welcome to SBG! Like the other guys said, give it a shave and your worries will start to go down the drain along with your hair.

Thanks guys!
I'm definitely going to go through with it soon... maybe tonight. There's nothing like a good dose of peer pressure to push me along

Looking younger is definitely a benefit I'm looking for... feeling younger is even more important. I can sense it as being a liberating experience. I come across guys twice my age who have a youthfulness I've lost.
The issues I've had with having a shaved head has to do with the image. I get too concerned with what others think and such. When I had a shaved head before my son said I looked scary (how effective the media is at creating stereotypes in our young). There's also a sense of vulnerability to it because it stands out so much in a crowd... I'm tall, so I already stand out.
One of you made a comment on another topic about nowadays a young guy with MPB who doesn't shave standing out more... I can see that as being true. It's just the kind of attention is different than with the shaved head.

About the music... I'm not too active with it currently, though since a young age I've always identified myself as being a musician starting on piano and dabbling in various other instruments. I used to be very involved playing the bass (electric and upright) in everything from jazz ensembles, to orchestras, to rock bands... but life has a way of distracting us from our dreams. I tend to stick with this username since it's what I'm used to... and maybe I'll dive back into the musical community again.
