SPAM, the food

When I was in the Army in the 80's, I became a fan of SPAM, yes the canned meat product. I never liked it before the Army, but I probably became it's #1 fan while serving in the Army. I eat the "C" Rations that they had, but then they switched over to the MRE's (meals ready-to-eat). They would plug me up quicker than a bag of cement, mainly because I was doing a job that I did not have time to heat them up. So I got hooked on SPAM. I have learned to cook with spam in a lot of recipies, but does anyone else have a Spam recipie?

I like to cook fried rice with it. MREs took me from 205 to 275/280 in just under four years!

A past girlfriend of mine was half Asian, her father was American, her mother was chinese and Vietnamese. I was always treated to home cooked meals by her mother who ALWAYS put cubed up spam in her fried rice. I tell ya... it was delicious.
I've never had spam in anything else.

I've heard it's very popular in the Hawaii, maybe google Spam and Hawaii and you'll get some good ones.
I'm not too fond of it because it's canned and I avoid all canned foods--yeh, it's weird but I just don't like cans when I can easily get something fresh.

I like it on a salad. Where I come from eating stuff like Spam is just something you do because all the older folks around you ate stuff like that all the time in their day. Pork brains, pigs feet, those pickled eggs no one ever considers touching, squirrel, whatever. Its all good.

I did google "spam", and I found out that Hawaii consumes more Spam than any other state. Interesting......
