Shave Gel Reviews
« on: September 17, 2008, 06:27:37 PM »
Easy guyz, a few weeks back when I joined up I said I'd post up some reviews so thought I'd do shave gels. I don't have a great deal experience with shave foams and in the main I think their quite poor anyway. Feel free to add your own as well so I'll start with...

Bald Guyz Shave Gel (BG)

http://www.baldguyz.com/products/prdshavegel/

I have to say overall I've found this probably to be the best shave lubricant to use on your head, a fact that a lot guys use it here is quite an endorsement.  It’s slick, thick  i.e.  very cushioning on the the razor of your choice but  importantly if u just look at the ingredient list it’s packed with a concoction of goodies  in a balanced product that can be be quite healthy on scalp. There’s not a need to have sensitive variety of this like you’d get with many other brands, it just seems to be a quality product for your head and one that importantly shouldn't  make your skin react adversely to it. I’ve found it not to be as great for the face but solely for the head, combined with an oil of your choice if needed, this product is the bomb leaving you constantly slick for multiple razor passes.  I'd  say personally that it's a top head shaving lubricant simply because it's a safe bet on all areas of what u need a shave lube.  Put it this way, if money were no object, this would still be my shave gel of choice for the noggin  Only gripe would be u don't get as much product per tube say compared to....

HeadSlick

http://www.carterandbond.com/detail.phtml?pID=HD1003&filter=Brands%3AHeadBlade

(drum roll !!) The mighty Headslick. I'd encourage anyone who hasn't yet, should try these two to determine which they'd fancy the most. One thing this has over BG's is that it remains slick for much longer on your scalp. The first time I used this maybe two and abit years I noticed it in the bath, applied it on and just massaged my head.  Felt so nice that I carried on for well over a minute but looking at my mug in the mirror, I noticed the lather was still slick and thick and basically there. It really does hold well this stuff. Similar to BaldGuyz it seems to contain some good stuff  but it does have menthol  which by no means is this an educated remark but I felt it gave me the odd pimple or minor break out after consistently using it.  If the the guys there can produce one that’s un mentholated, that may be good to cater for people with sensitive scalps I dunno but despite how good this stuff is, I never bought another after my second bottle. BTW Thats only been my reaction to it, for anyone who doesn't get effected or think they wouldn't, this along with the above is where it's at boyos.  Unlike BG's it comes like a full colored cream whereas BG's is more like a near  contemporary colorless gel and Headslick actually whips up brilliantly if you've got have decent shaving brush.

I can't dis a firm like Headlblade anywayz who have an approach and business model in catering for Sly guyz. They as well as Baldguyz have really expanded their distributions to the point u should be be able to find these easily stateside, Europe where it seems most of us are located. Fortunately for moi BaldGuyz is available on the high street in the UK (Boots people!!!).  U certainly get more product in Headslick and as quite a few of the gents here have mentioned , the stuff  lasts ages.

Billy Jealousy Hydroplane

https://www.billyjealousy.com/itemdetail.cfm?id=83

Hydroplane’s been mentioned by a couple of guys here, myself included and frequently comes up on wet shaving boards when people discuss the best brushless shave creams. I can see why, this stuff is really slippery. At this point I should say in determining the slickness of this compared to the other two is irrelevant. Mainly any differences are quite minute. Billy jealousy appear to market themselves as a premium line of products and though this stuff is really quite good, I found that it didn’t remain as slick for longer as Headslick. The main downer though is the price. Approximately twice as much as the other two and it’s not distinctly any better despite It’s classy packaging therefore you’d not be missing anything if you didn’t bother with this one.  I do face shave with it when I can’t be bothered using my Cream/brush until it runs and it is fab though.  Very clean, non messy, a superior product that still stands out compared to other mass marketed shaving gels you can by at the drugstore.

Clinique M Shave Gel

http://www.clinique.co.uk/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT1033&PRODUCT_ID=PROD1103

Let me give you the characteristics on a really pants shave gel! Clinique are seen as a premium skincare brand and do  make good products for men and women. This however so isn't and I think it's  really half assed. At the time it contained aloe and I felt it'd be good to use besides I bought it with some vouchers so it didn’t cost anything. This has very thin light consistency almost as if the razor can go right through it as if it were air.  Now this may not sound like a bad thing but this is one of the few times my head and face went sore red from scraping my head with my razor purely coz this lubricant didn’t provide any good glide or cushion. It dries up very quickly making it worse and to actually get good slickness, u really need to use alot of it so it’ll run out very quickly. I found this to be very disappointing. Anyone whose prone to irritation from the actual shaving process should stay clear of  shave gels like this that are just so thin and seem not to provide any real protection

Gillette Fusion HydraGel

http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10052&productId=27470&callingViewName=&langId=-1&catalogId=11051

How many shave gels does this firm make?  I tend stay clear of the mass marketed brands usually as there's a lot of marketing hype around them about nothing major but this stuff ain't half bad. My local supermarket were selling miniature cans of this so I picked one up along with my groceries.  The ingredient list doesn't look anything like the Bald Guyz gel, more chemicals, binding agents etc but there is sensitive version of this for anyone who suffers form sensitivity or regular irritation It's very slick and works up to a very rich lather.  Similarly to the clinique gel, I found you have to use abit more product compared the BG's  or Headslick to get your desired results But still not bad and you should be able to find this anywhere near by.

Peace  O0
