Well this past weekend I had a large-ish family gathering and it was the first time the entire family and some friends have seen me. At this point I am pretty comfortable sly but sometimes seeing people you havent seen in will still bring me back to when I first shaved. Good reactions from everyone...I would say initially they did a double take and were probably taken back a little..(as was I looking in the mirror the first time !) But after that nothing but positive. Some asked me why I shaved my head...my answer ? "I hated my hair" ...I think some people when they see you bald they forget that you were losing your hair...maybe I am the only one who noticed as much. Everyone said I had a good head for it and that bald is sexy. They said if they didnt like it they would just say nothing. It was nice and sunny out so I was letting it shine all day ! (with coppertone sport SPF-50 of course...LOVE that stuff)
We almost talked my brother in law to shaving his head(hes balding a lot) but his wife wasnt having it.
Overall a good day and even more confirmation that SLY was the best choice for me.

My Mom wears her heart on her sleeve and opens her mouth rather quickly, she was a little less than happy at first. When she realized how much better I felt about myself she was all for it, I think she may even like it now! People do not realize how much you try to hide your hair loss. I was just plain sick with how I looked,
and I'm sure with MPB it is the same. (I have alopecia pretty bad, but little thinning. Best way to describe my old look, mange!)

Great story!...I think some people when they see you bald they forget that you were losing your hair...maybe I am the only one who noticed as much.
I think that line says volumes. Like you (and Anvil said), going sly is all about how you feel about your look. If people in your life don't like it, that's a shame. However, they need to respect the fact that you like it. Plus, IT'S NOT THEIR FRIGGIN' HEAD ANYWAY!

In 2 weeks I'm going to my 1st family reunion since I've been sly (less than 2 weeks)

NYric I really do not think you have anything to worry about. Just go in there and be proud of that slick dome.
I went to my wifes family reunion yesterday and alot of them there hadnt seen me and my proud dome before. Funny thing was I was slick last year when I went and there were several of her cousins that were askig me about it and they showed up shaved this time. I just gave them the acceptance rub. LOL...ok boys take it for what you will..............

While it wasn't a large gathering , I got to show my mom, dad and sister's family my new look during the summer and they had no problems with it. My family is always accepting and they don't get bent if I try something new. They'd be really disappointed if I showed up without one of my arms, but not without hair! My neice tells me "How do you get your head so shiny?" (ancient chinese secret)
In march 22 this year I'll make 1 year of being completely bald.
