Got a canoe this week-end.
« on: September 14, 2008, 05:19:36 PM »
Anyone else here use a canoe?
It was very fun and relaxing rowing around in the bright moonlight last night.
I did flip it once near shore trying to launch off at the front and make my way towards the back of the canoe.
From now on I think I'll wear swimsuits when canoing!

Remember to never take my advice seriously (unless I'm being serious) and you'll do alright.

Yeah, I use to have a canoe but don't anymore. When I was younger a bunch of us did a weeks trip through the Adirondack Mountains down the Raquette River ...lot's of fun but as you found out you have to be careful not to dump yourself. Some friends have kayak's and are trying to get me interested in trying them out....am thinking about it  !!

Yep, I know the feeling.   I live on the water all summer and it is great to be able to go up into places the regular boat and motor won't go.     Makes a nice retreat for fishing too.

I use our friend's canoe to float the rivers and fish.  It doesn't handle whitewater well so I have to be careful about where I fish.

Own a mad river canoe.  They're fun, until you get stopped by self-righteous cops who fine you for not wearing a life vest.  Must have been a slow day...

Life jackets drive me crazy.  When I ski or riding a jet ski, sure I wear one.  But rowing around in a canoe, or a peddle boat; give me a break.  How are you supposed to get a tan with a balloon strapped to you!  Have it with you, sure.  But

Run from them, if you can get the canoe to plane out you might be able to pull 6 mph if you are lucky.
