I love the way my slick head looks, but people are a little more scared of me the last few days! I am used to getting a pretty wide lane of travel as old folks and parents clear a path when I move past, but now it is ten times worse! Paul

Brother, at 6'5" 310 I have the same problem sometimes, the only thing I can tell you is try to smile more often and a kind "hello" works sometimes. Some people are still afraid of their own shadow so it won't help all the time.

Same here. I find myself smiling loads
just to calm down anxieties in certain people I meet. Teens in main give the silent gorping treatment.

Similar stories, it seems. I was at a 7-11 getting a cold drink. An elderly couple was looking hard at me, the woman was actually clutching her purse in fear.
After about four minutes of the glaring, I turned to the couple, cracked a huge S.E.G. and pointed at my noggin. I exclaimed "SUPERCUTS! Never go there. This could happen to YOU!"
Well, the old man lost it. I thought he was going to pass out from laughing so hard. The woman got an instant of mortification on her face, then joined in with the laughter. I guess she realized just how silly she was being.
It's not like we're all skinheads...

Well, I don't know if it's because I'm older or just look harmless.....I haven't had the same experience nor have I noticed anyone treating me any differently since shaving the dome...

That's part of being Sly. As I've said a few times before, people have a rather unique way of reacting to other people's appearance. Most folks are open minded, and accept you for who you are. I love kid's reactions most because they are very curious, and they make sure you know it!

Im a pretty big dude so I definitely get some scared looks sometimes....kids are different though. They may say something like.."heyyy..you have no hair !"
I usually say "Really ?!?" and I rub my head in disbelief.

I get it too. Sometimes I throw out a smile, if I'm tired or busy I just go about my business and let em have a look at my beautiful dome.
I just try to smile extra if I see someone of color so that they don't think I'm a skinhead. I think the sly look has been mainstream in the black community for a long time so most people don't even think about the sly look.
As more time goes by since American History X came out then more people won't think twice about it.

At a whopping 5' 11" and 175lbs I too noticed the same thing. The thing that does work the best is just smile. I have 2 faces, normal face is more like a brood. Lines in the eyebrows, looks serious, I can't help it. Then I smile and my entire face changes.
Just smile dude. They'll either think you're a big teddy bear or criminally insane for smiling for no reason. At least you'll be proactive. In between smiling, every once in a while spin around and yell "WHO YOU CALLIN PSYCHO!???!". The old ladies love it.

I get the stares too... I'm a fairly big (but not compared to NOMAD!) guy.Add the shaved head and the tattoos. and I get a good amount of looks. If it's kids i'll make a joke at them, a pretty woman I'll chat her up (Mrs. koz calls me the world's biggest flirt), guys..... I just ignore or drop a joke.

My little cousin will get scared if i dont have a hat on, but then once im around for a while she calms down. The best part though about being bald and looking tough (and let me know if its like this for yall) when you get mad, "the vein" sticks out. im talking about the big gnarly one that pokes out on the forehead that screams "i will eat your face" to whomever has the misfortune of being in its way...
is it like that for you guys too?

I think people are scared of me more when I'm absolutely calm and staring them in the eyes.

My vein sticks out if I'm stressed, when I workout, if it's hot, for all kinds of reasons.
I think of it as a fuel line for my powerful brain haha.
