All this open dialogue around the globe is fine, but at times things can become a little confusing with brand names.
A quick glance through the PB&J thread had me quite worried. In the UK Jif used to be a brand of kitchen/bathroom cleaner. Certainly not the sort of stuff you'd want to spread on bread.
Similarly, in Australia Durex is a brand of sticking tape. Here the biggest seller and household name for the product is Sellotape. Durex is a condom!
We've had a number of products renamed as apparently they cause confusion:
Marathon --> Snickers
Jif --> Cif
Immac --> Veet
The effect has been to confuse me. Maybe everyone else has got the hang of it.
Do you know of any brandnames that are used in other countries for different products?
Ever asked for something in a shop and been met with blank looks until you've found the right name for stuff?
