Sweet, horrible reactions
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:47:58 PM »
Well, I popped up into my house after a year being gone, and my family was revolted. Every single person said I looked awful. So far, I got these nicknames:

Auschwitz Survivor
Voldemort
Cancer Patient

I grew my hair out about an inch, and there's hair all over but it looks so thin to me. My parents say I'm crazy to think that I'm balding and that I should keep it. I'm going to go to a dermatologist soon for some mole stuff, and have 'em look at my head to see if I'm really balding.

I feel like a total piece of sh*t right now. I can't afford a therapist or anything. I feel great all day, then I see my shiny scalp under my hair, and my confidence is goooooooone. I can't see all the hot girls I used to see last year because I'm too insecure about my hair. Ugh.

Welcome Stand.  While the reactions of our family CAN be difficult to deal with, you are the one who has to live in your skin.  If you are happy being sly then keep it and check in here for daily support.

Welcome, You are among friends here.  Alot of us have endured negative comments from family.  Stand strong and be yourself.  Just be comfortable in your own skin.  I think that there is no better way to do that than to be truly SLY.

You do what you want to do and don't give a sh*t about what anyone else says. After all do you tell them what to do! Do you tell them what shade of lipstick to wear or how to dress. Also I think those names they called you were horrible. What kind of ignorant, classless gawks call somebody a cancer patient.Friggin unbelievable.

You got to be comfortable in your own skin and can't control what others think. I get DR. Evil and when I drop my pants "mini me"

Hahahah..

Standgeblase - Is anyone else in your family bald or balding?  I'm lucky enough to have my Dad and older bro to be in the same boat, so there is definitely understanding within my family, when it comes to being bald.
If no one else has that experience in your family, then they are going to have that initial shock.  It doesn't justify what they called you, but they are probably unaware of how sensitive you may be about the subject.

Honestly, it's hard for me to believe that your family was as nasty as you explained them to be.  Were they that heartless?

Stand, post up a pic so we can see what you're talking about.

I find it hard to believe your whole family would have that extreme a reaction.

Listen to what don, Paul, Tim and KC have said; its all about you!

bootedbear....your killing me LMAO

Just got back from the store, and while I was at the local grocery store, after check out on the way out I stopped at the Ice Cream counter to get me some.  After the girl scooped me a bowl of my favorite "Cookie and Cream" ice cream, she leaned over and whispered, "I love your shaved head", I leaned over and said thanks.  She said that she wished I would talk to her husband about it because he has the dreaded HORSESHOE on his head, and is even  talking about getting hair transplant surgery.  I asked her if she had internet access, she said yes and I gave her the url to SBG forum.  She gave me her phone number and asked for me to call her on Friday to set up a meeting with her husband.  This was all done in a whisper, when I was about to leave I leaned in and asked her why we were whispering. She said it felt like she was cheating on her husband asking me about my head.

I laughed all the way to the truck
I was told to think outside the box, how did I get in the box in the first place?
