Important info for ALL men... Prostate exam info

I posted this link in Brkeatr's thread about having prostate cancer 8 years ago but I thought it important enough to post it under it's own topic.

Please brothers!!! I implore you to read this article and depending on which category you fall in age and risk wise..... arrange to get an exam at the proper time.

A few moments of discomfort could save your life..... think of yourself, your family and your brothers here.

I especially ask my black brothers here to arrange for an exam. You guys are in a high risk category. Growing up in an inner city neighborhood where more than half of my friends were black, I personally know that there is some extra stigma among many black men when it comes to these types of exams.

All my brothers here PLEASE take note of Brkeatr's thread and this posting.

My doctor does a PSA every four months or so.  A simple blood test and the peace of mind it brings is worth it.

Thanks for posting that Mike.....I was 49 when diagnosed....no family history of prostate cancer either.

My next test is September 15.  I get one every year and can't stress how important it is.  It really is no big deal.

Why is it that when you have the old prostate checked, it's done by the Doctor with the biggest damn fingers in the world.......hell I wear a size 17 ring.   He must have had a size 35.

Funny story here....My Dr was telling me maybe 2 years ago he was giving the digital exam to a guy and all of a sudden he asked him if he would mind sticking another finger in. My Dr said he thought that was a strange request so he said to him, why do you want me to stick another finger in? The guy quipped, I just thought I would ask for a second opinion....

First exam, bent over and I had a wise guy doctor!  Taped to the cushion before my eyes was a sign, "Just think, 5 minutes ago we didn't know each other!"  I laughed, and next thing I heard was okay you're done.  So it did eliminate the discomfort.

Haven't had it done yet,,, but I guess it's coming soon, I'm 43. SERIOUS question for you all,, I have a female doc,, who has very thin fingers,, will a female doc do the exam,,, or in todays society of lawsuits will she refer me to a male? TRUST ME I would much rather have a woman with skinning fingers do it than a male.

I have had both female and male Drs do the procedure. I just had the scope in the bladder again last week and a female did all the prep work for that too. The last time I had that done 8 years ago I had a female prep my privates and a female Dr did the procedure...

I'm afraid that if I had a female prepp my privates "Mr. Woody" would make a surprise appearance...........
