Getting closer boys...
« on: September 03, 2008, 04:28:52 PM »
So, I shared my story a while back, and felt the sly love. Noticed the other poster, Drew?, was on the same path as me and I was following to see how it worked out for him...but guess he dropped.  :XX
I am hoping he is so happy that he just forgot about everything else, but who knows.

Anyway, getting close to "my time", think it'll happen in the next 2 weeks. Leaving one job, starting another then...so the transition should work.

...but still struggling with my fears, and they are:
     1) what will I think??! (read a past forum and seeing that it will take a bit of getting used to)
     2) what will others think (I know we shouldn't care...but it's dealing with that 1st shocked look that bugs me)
     3) can I even out the color in just 2 or 3 days? (keep in mind, I have a "system" on, so going form full coverage to nada!)

Anyway, will keep you all posted.
THanks

Ric,
best of luck to ya.

1) Talk to yourself in the mirror, take lots of pictures of yourself.  Become ULTRA vain to get used to your look. But seriously, it will take a little time.  Obviously the more times you see yourself, the more you'll get used to it.
2) is there a way you can post a pic of your new look somewhere to prepare others?  Maybe a blog?
3) Never tried it, but a few guys have used different self-tanners that seem to even out the color.

On point #3, the only thing that will really even out the color is time...

Self tanners are hit or miss... some here have used them, but with varied results.

But no matter what, remember the sunscreen!!!

1)  Buy some clippers and keep buzzing your hair down to shorter lengths.  That way the shock value won't be as high.

2)  Shave on a day that you don't work, that way you can give yourself some time to get used to it and then peoples reactions won't bug you as much, since you won't be as shocked as they are about the whole being sly thing.

3) No its takes more time then that.  Use Jergens "medium" tanning lotion.  People on here say its really good.

It may be the best thing to start the transition now.  If you ditch the "system" and go to a short cut, like a #1 or 2 buzz, your skin will start getting some sun on it.  Keep it short enough over the next two weeks, and your skin won't be pasty white when you are ready to shave it.  I had a short buzz before I shaved for the first time, and you couldn't really tell because the skin tone was pretty even.

As far as what will others think, its not important.  For most people, you won't even know if they noticed.  Most won't say anything.  The ones who do say something fall into three categories.  The complimentary, where a simple "thank you" will be sufficient, the obnoxious, who don't really warrant any more of a reply than "I felt like it", and those who are curious or genuinely interested in your motivation, who warrant a warm and possibly extended conversation.

Good luck, and stay positive.

I wore a system for years as well.
I'm glad it's behind me. Feel 100% better now that it's gone.
I suspect you will too NYric.
So far no-one that knew me before when I had the full head of fake hair has cared one iota. Why would they? Who am I? I could paint my head purple and other than saying "Hey your head is purple why did you do that?" no-one is going to go home and dwell on anything I've done to my head. No-one I newly meet says anything, why would they? They have probably seen thousands of bald headed guys. Who am I that they would give me a second glance?

No sir. I think your worries are unfounded. You'll see. Hell if I was you, I'd shave before you left the old job. What are your co-workers going to do? Get you fired for being bald?  O:O
Remember to never take my advice seriously (unless I'm being serious) and you'll do alright.

NYric, this is great advice. I too think you should do it before you leave your current job, why not do it this weekend??
If I was leaving I wouldn't care what peoples reaction was... I'd even make it a game. Shave, then wear the system, hit the bathroom a couple hours after being at work, remove the system. Then when you have lunch, come back with the system back on... oh the things I can think of.....
Why not have fun with it?
Good Luck!!  8)

Being a completely bald by choice man reminds me of Recondo training in the military and the infamous "slide for life" into the lake at the end of the course.  Ya can't do it a little at a time.  Grab that razor, lather up and go slick.

As in parachuting, the first step is always the hardest......and you cant get out of the plane without jumping. You just gotta do "IT"    :D O0 8)
I was told to think outside the box, how did I get in the box in the first place?

If you weren't nervous it wouldn't be as exciting  O0
Go for it, I look forward to seeing your reaction. Other people don't really matter, but I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Better yet make today the day. If you can, shave it tonight when you get home.

You will feel the freedom and wish you had done it last month I'm tellin ya!

Good luck and get it smooth!     O0
