Why did you start shaving your head?

I thought I'd satisfy my curiosity as to why others started.

In my case, it was Male Pattern Baldness. I was in my mid-late 20's when it started (I'm in my 40's now.) After watching a cousin of mine (who makes a truckload of money) who was also going bald go through multiple failures with various methods of hair transplantation, including some rather gruesome scalp infections, I took the attitude "OK Mother Nature, You started this, but I am going to FINISH it!" Have never looked back. Now, being sly is just a part of who I am. About 12 years of slyness, and no regrets.

I think we had a similiar thread before.  Anyway, I ALWAYS wanted to be completely slick bald for as long as I could remember and always liked wearing recon flat tops, noguard clipper shaves, etc. Always thought it just looked really sharp.  I knew first time I peeled my recon flat top off and lathered up, I was a lifer skinhead and never looked back.  Nothing beats the daily hot lather against the grain headshave.

Shaved Aug 22nd 2008 because what I had was either turning white or falling out. The more that happened, the more I became self conscious about it. I hated having to always worry about my hair and going sly was the perfect solution.

MPB set in, but what was left was gray.  Now that I am sly, I have taken 10 years at least off my age, and I am not old.

MPB but Sly is cooler.
Tis better to have a bald head than no head at all.

In middle school I had a class and we were studying biology, genetics was the topic of the day and we all had to pull back our hair to see if we had a "widow's peak", my hair was at my shoulders at the time and when I pulled it back my teacher gasped and said, well you'll be bald before you go to college. I was paranoid as hell about it ever after. I always said if it got noticeable I would go sly. Well curiosity set in before MPB took over and here I am. I found out after shaving I have no noticeable hair loss at all aside from a semi deep hairline.

So maybe I'd be MPB or other, either way I totally dig the look and I truly am no longer worried about MPB.

No choice here but to even out the top following removal of old hair transplants.

I have plenty of hair.  I do it because it is cooler.
My hair was beginning to turn grey though.  Not that I'm vain, but it was that wiry grey hair.  Not the grey that looks nice.

It was MPB to a degree, but more about needing a change.
I found myself wearing a hat when I wasn't on the field coaching my kid's baseball team. I think it became a habit unintentionally. Being from the south, wearing a hat all the time puts you in the "redneck" category... even if your not!
So after some great answers and advice here, I found my change  8)
