hey
« on: August 29, 2008, 01:19:06 AM »
So I've battling the windy weather for a few years now haha. I'm only 18 and my receding hairline is the only thing I dislike about myself. Having a younger brother with the surfer hair goin on doesn't help at all either hahah. I joke to my girlfriend about going bald and hey, she said bald is the new sexy and I want to believe that.  The only thing I'm having trouble with is actually shaving my head.  I've been playing it off for a while now, a few years actually, and wearing a hat all the time is starting to get annoying.  Just because of the fact I'm afraid of what my hat hair looks like after I take it off.  I've found out joking about my hair loss helps me not care about it too much but I just don't want it there anymore.  I like to think of myself as a fairly confident guy but hahah I can't seem to grow a pair and just shave it off.  Reading some of the stories on this site though gave me some more confidence in going ahead and just doing it but I'm still eager to think what the kids at college will think, at my new job, etc etc. I know I shouldn't care what they think but that's kinda tough hahah especially with my lil bro gettin all the comments on his hair that he gets.  I guess a head rub would totally beat some one petting my hair. I don't know, but the stories I have read have been inspiring.

So I just realized I wrote a paragraph without the intentions of doing so, but like, I was just wanting to know what made most of you finally decide to shave it all off and go completely bald?

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys Juked.  There are a lot of other young guys on here that have gone through the same thing.  It is a big step but hey, give it a try.  You might discover that you love the look and feel of Sly.

welcome to the forum,

it's quite easy: take the plunge, shave your head smooth and you'll be happy.
It's a great feeling and you won't regret it.
Go ahead!

best regards

Welcome juked.  I'm one of the guys on here to is Bald By Choice so all I can say is that though I initially shaved it all of for charity, that was two years ago and I wouldn't have it any other way.  Because I had a full head of hair I was anxious like you about showing up for work or with family and friends totally bald.  But as you will read from others, it was really a non-issue.  People who like and love you will still like and love you no matter what.  The others....well they don't really matter anyway, do they?   So go for it.  Shave it off, you'll love it, and if you don't, well it's only hair and will grow back.

Better than shaving your head - get your girlfriend to do it.
Clippers down to zero and then lather up and go for it.  Take it slow and be prepared to rinse and clear the razor several times.
Tell her that it is essential that she rubs moisturiser on afterwards.

I reckon you'll love the look, and if you don't then in a few days it will grow back.

Imagine your semester has just started or is about to.  I'd recommend shaving it right away as you make an entire new friend group when you hit University.  Your sudden lack of hair will be a complete non issue to these cats as it's the only way they've ever seen you.  I doubt any of them will even think about it or if they do, they'll know that it's just your style.

Also, you had long hair as a boy and a teen as your brother does.  Let him take the boyish complements and know that your shaved dome is a rite of passage into maturity and manhood.  The sly look garners a lot more respect and your girlfriend holds the same attitude as mine, as i assume most enlightened women do.  (those happen to be the interesting ones you actually want to get to know!)

Anyways, sand that block down and post pics!

Welcome to the right place to air your FEARS.....Many of the guys on here have had, and dealt with the same fear that you are having right now..........read, listen, think, then just shave the Noggin'.  If your fears come true, then it you can let your hair grow back.
I was told to think outside the box, how did I get in the box in the first place?

Welcome man, if you stick around here you will shave your head in no time.
I buzzed my head because of hairloss, then later scraped the dome after lurking here.
Take care.

Welcome Juked!

Like most of the Guys, I was sick of the MPB and shaved my head and totally loved it.  Don't sit on that fence too long Bro, you won't know what you're missing, till you start shaving your dome.  Read the many post on head shaving and ask questions.  The folks here at SBG will be only too happy to give you honest answers! Welcome to SBG's Juked. Sounds like you're heading in the right direction.

All the bro's have given good advice, it's up to you to do what you think is right for you.

Try the buzzed down look for a while. You may end up finding that you just want to shave it all down. As you will find in reading past posts, many of us have gone through the exact same feelings.

I'm assuming you are older than your brother, and like Casey said it's a great passage into a more mature you. If you will be starting a new part of your life like college, it will be easier if you go into it with your new look.

Good luck and keep us posted.      O0
