Learning to LEARN!

Hey all , had a great weekend here. This time of year it is usually the hottest...temps usually in the high 90's humidity to go along with it..just basically a sucky time of year around here. But this weekend and the week ahead it is only suppose to get in the low 80's and dry. Nights have been dipping into the upper 50's. made for perfect skiing and tubing weather.
I have learned that there is a point of time in your life that you shouldnt learn new things. Water Skiing. Yes I did it...but not without paying the price. On my last failure attempt to get up on the ski's, the ski's flipped over my head and the tow line was between my legs..the handle gets slammed up against my tackle box...and taht was not a very good feeling at all...especially when the boat was trying to stop and it kept pulling me back wards. NOT A GOOD SIGHT AT ALL! I sat there in the middle of the lake wanting to puke but to not give up. Just glad taht we are finished having kids. I gave them the thumbs up to try it again. This attempt I got up on the ski's and made a complete round trip on the lake and back to the dock. I did great. Not ready to give it up yet...I decided for another round trip. Made it up on first try no problems....completed my lap without falling. It was all good...until I tried to get up out of the water and back into the boat. My arms felt like rubber bands...my legs were floppy and my tackle box ...well lets just say...i cant even hold them to go pee let alone do anything else with it. About 4 hours afterwards I was concerned I really had some injuries there...cause I ended up puking when I got home. all is good now...just some sore joints and a restless night last night. I think it is goign to be an advil night tonight. But what ever the cost....I Did It!

Never to late to learn, but the lessons may turn out to be something you did not want to learn, for example....You learned that you could water ski (if that was your first time trying) or that you still can water ski (if you havent done it in a long time). The other lesson that you learned is that water skiing makes you use muscles that you either didnt know you had or muscles that you haven't use in a long, long ,long time. I don't think you should be alarmed that you caused any major damage to your body, throwing up when you got home was probably your body ridding itself of a build up of lactic acid. Sometime after prolonged extreme physical exertion your body builds up so much lactic acid some of it gets into your stomach, causing any ingested food to kind of go sour and your body rids itself of it the only way it knows how.........
My next theory is you, like me probably forgot to close your mouth and swallowed half the lake will being dragged around the lake.....

Water skiing is awesome! Glad you got to try it. Just remember to keep your legs in a squat position, rock forward as the boat starts to pull you up, and NEVER pull on the rope once you're up.

I got the hang of it...I actually did two complete passes around the whole lake with out falling or ever having any trouble....it was the damn handle wedged between my legs and my tackle box that made me throw up....

Well I'm an old city boy.......... grew up in Baltimore. So I never tried water sports until well into my 30's. I tried water skiing at the age of 35 for the first time. I did OK and drank much bay water. Didn't really like it though....... Give me sports where you need a ball..... baseball, football, basketball, golf............

way to stick with it. A couple of weeks ago I was on vacation and did the para sailing at my buds lake place. It was the first time he had done it since we just opened the box that Saturday morning. Needless to say after a few dragging face plants and a couple of trips back to the directions we managed to get the first victim up in the air (me). 300 feet of rope and 100+ feet in the air we didn't go over the signals to get me the H#ll down. Oh well it made for good comedy on shore!

Way to go Timmay. Love being on the water and skiing myself. \It's great that you were willing to try something new. You can quit practicing the vomitting though. Between the convention and this event, I think you have that down pretty good.

I used to water ski all the time. Grew up skiing on a river in North Florida. I still have my slalom in the garage. it has been a few years though. May have to try it out again.
Glad you stuck with it. Now try whitewater kayaking! That's a blast

maybe we should have a SBG convention doing some white water rafting...that would be a blast. There is a place in se tennessee that I know about where you can go rafting and you also camp out in a cave.
