WHEN was the last time U read an encyclopedia?
« on: August 08, 2008, 09:40:20 PM »
hello fellow chrome domes:  just wondering... when was the last time U read or even seen an encyclopedia?  i remember my dad bought us a collection of BRITTANICA (sp?) encyclopedias back in the 80s when my brother & i were kids.
well... since the discovery of the internet... i haven't read an encyclopedia since the late 80's.

so... how 'bout U?  did U own a set of BRITTANICA encyclopedias, also?  when was the last time U read one?  what's your story?

As a kid, I use to enjoy reading Comptons.  Perhaps it was my love for history and all things trivial
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt

I use and read Wikipedia on a daily basis. Does that count?

hey fr8train:  nope... it doesn't count.  i'm talking 'bout the hardback covered encyclopedias from back in the day.

I was totally shot down there too... I'm on Wikipedia several times a day, for quick trivial look ups or self-edification.  My parents have a set of encyclopedias from like 1978 or something in their basement, but I don't recall the last time I cracked one of them open.

Is reading a dictionary close enough?
