Big Family Gathering...
« on: July 18, 2008, 09:31:39 AM »
So I made a post a couple months ago talking about how I have a wedding to go to and it will be the first time most of my family and family friends see my Sly. Well, tonight is the first night of showing off the new me. There's a dinner party tonight, then the wedding tomorrow. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little nervous. But I'm ready to show off the new look. Can't wait to see the reactions I get. Wish me luck!

Good luck man, I always enjoy showing off the new look... so much so that I think most everyone I know has already seen it lol.

Have a great time!

Three questions, BJR, and I'm just interested from a cultural point of view. 1) Is this a traditional Indian wedding and 2) Is your Mother going to be there? 3) If so, has she seen you sly?  I work in IT and I have never seen a young Sly Indian guy. (other than yourself)

Hey Red. It is a traditional Indian wedding, so there are actually like 3-4 nights of events and such. I'm only attending Friday and Saturday night. My mom will be there, and she has seen me sly. She's been ok with it, I think. You're definitely right about not many Indians being sly. I think culturally, Indians love having longer hair. I know my dad prefers that my hair was longer.

Hey Jay, good luck (not that you'll need it, from what I've seen it looks fantastic) but most of all,
have fun!!  :-*

Have fun man!

I have a couple of Indian friends and associates that are Sly.  I think it's becoming more popular as I am starting to see more and more Indian guys with the Sly dome here in the Bay Area.

It's that Bay Area hip factor.  Always cutting edge in trends.  8)

So this weekend, I feel like my "sly transformation" is complete. Everyone I pretty much know or care about has now seen me sly.

As far as the reactions I got last night, on the whole, they were good. There was only one negative reaction. The first person to see me and recognize me gave me the UGH GROSS face and actually said, "What the hell did you do to your hair??!?!?!". Pretty rude in my opinion, actually, especially considering I haven't seen the person in 3 or 4 years. What if I was sick, and that's the reason I was sly. How can you can you just come out and say something like that. Regardless, it didn't bother me one bit.
The rest of the reactions were pretty good. Everyone else said it looked good, although only a handful were actually genuine about it. The younger crowd definitely loved it. Awesome and badass were the words they used. The older crowd would sort of admire it, a few of them said it looked good. One of my uncles pulled me aside and told me, "Hey man, I love this look. You're the coolest looking man in the building with that head and suit." So overall, very positive reactions.
The funny thing was a lot of people didn't even recognize me until I went up to them and re-introduced myself. I loved that part.

Awesome James, glad to hear it was a positive experience.  And your uncle was right, sly and a suit...makes a sweet combo.
