Bald Runners/Bikers/Triathletes?
« on: July 16, 2008, 03:51:30 PM »
Hey my fellow BALDIES (and you ladies), are any of you competitive runners/bikers/triathletes? Now as some of you know, I have just recently given up cigarettes. Thank you. And one of my hangouts in the local library mainly because I have never smoked there (not that smoking is allowed inside the library. This IS California for crying out loud) and it seems to be a safe place for me during these first few days of nicotine withdrawal. Anyway, in addition to this the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training is holding an informational meeting here tonight that I am anxious to attend.

If you are not familiar with Team in Training (www.teamintraining.org) it is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training,® the world's largest endurance sports training program. The program provides training to run or walk marathons and half marathons or participate in triathlons and century (100-mile) bike rides. Since 1988, more than 360,000 volunteer participants have helped raise more than $850 million.

Now I actually used to be a runner when I was younger, much younger, believe it or not and I did love the "high" that running gave me. Since those golden years of youth, I have participated in only a handful of running races and really desire to get back that feeling I had as a youth. My crutch (cigarettes) always held me back in my early adult life and now that I have decided to quit being a slave to the drug nicotine, I find myself about 50 lbs over weight, that's 3.5 stone/22 kg for my European friends. So getting back into the running game is going to not only take discipline, to get out the door on a regular basis, but discipline to not try too much too fast. I have done that before and ended up injured for several weeks. So when I found out that Team in Training was holding an informational meeting here at the library I was determined to, if nothing else, attend and hope that I can get back into the running game, increase my stamina, health and overall fitness.

So I was wondering, are any of you runners, bikers or triathletes? Do you compete in any events? If so, what and where is your next event?

I drink beer, bowl and golf... I am guessing that is not the triathlon you are talking abut though.

Actually Marz, that's not an Ironman....that's a Tin Man!

After a week in Mazatlan and followed up with working on the road, I feel like a bowling ball (even though I ran 4.5 miles yesterday).
Can't wait to be at home for a while.

Im more of a weight lifitng/sports guy but I am going to train to do a 5k for this fall. My wife runs half marathons and I see what a cool thing running is so I am going to give it a whirl.  I dont want to do half marathons but 5k is appealing.

Yes I am doing the Turkey Trot. It's been only 19 days. I went the first week then went out with some mates to a local brewery and ended up smoking that night so I had to start all over again. But so far, so good. Thanks.

Turkey Racing.....It's something like horse racing, only a little smaller and a little slower.
