Mamma Mia The Movie
« on: July 15, 2008, 01:20:06 AM »
I was wondering if there are any ABBA fans here.  When I was a teen, one of my favorite groups was ABBA.  I actually liked a bit of harder rock acts like Heart and Foreigner.  The Eagles were up there on my list too.  But I have to say that I loved the sweet sound of the two Swedish gals that made up the majority of the vocals on most ABBA songs.

What I was wondering if any of you have actually Mamma Mia! The Musical.  I had not seen it but I am looking forward to the movie.  If you have seen the musical, what did you think of it?  Also, I know the movie is being released this Friday.  For those who will be seeing it, tell us what you thought of that when you did see it!

I am!! I  :@` Abba!!

I've been to see three musicals this year so far, unfortunately not Mamma Mia as of yet, but watch this space!
It's the next one on my list  O0

And to describe the film in one word.... FUN!!
I actually watched it last night. It's kinda cheesy, crazy but it's a lot of fun, it made me laugh and I dare
you not to start singing along with it!!
One word of warning.. you might want to take ear plugs when you hear Pierce Brosnan singing..
I was embarassed for the poor man.  ;D

I forgot what country you are in.  Is it the UK?  Anyway, here in the States, it is supposed to be released on Friday.  I am glad to get a good review from you!    O0    ^-^

I saw the musical several times, but the best time was in London.  The English and the Europeans were so much more into ABBA.  I'm going Saturday to see the movie with friends who are real ABBA fanatics.

P.S. Sirius radio channel 03 is all ABBA all the time for a week or so in honor of the opening of the movie.

Thank you for the music!

Well,

I finally saw Mamma Mia!  I have to give it a 2 thumbs up!  If you are a ABBA fan like I am, you will find it to be a hoot!  Yeah, it is kind of cheesy!  Pierce Brosnan is not the best singer.  Meryl Streep is a much better singer!  The story line is fun but has some twists.  I will not tell you what those are.  But the premise of the movie is that Sophia is getting married but doesn't know who her father is but finds mom's diary and invites the 3 men who her mom had affairs with around the time of her conception.  The fun surrounds all the interactions  with the 3 "dads" and mom.  It is set in the Greek islands.  Most of ABBA's biggest hits are in there.  In some of the songs, it seems that they even went from the actors singing the music to the original tracks.  There are definitely some surprises.  I also encourage you to stay when the credits start.  There are some treats there!  All I can say is Mamma Mia, My My, Thank You For The Music!  You might surrender like Napoleon did at Waterloo and check out ABBA's music after you see this!

Ok. I'm not a Great ABBA fan but my g/f has been bugging me to go see this movie. Now mind you she and I both grew up in the 70's so of course I know the music and I am pretty open minded. So, should I go or not? To preserve my relationship I say YES but I also don't want to fall asleep during the flick and get into a whole nother pot of boiling water....

The solution is to go to the concession stand and if they have Mountain Dew, drink that and stay awake from the sugar and caffeine!
