Need Razor for Face
« on: July 07, 2008, 06:31:38 PM »
Ok, I have a beard that I really like to keep nice and trim. But I ALWAYS get bumps and irritation all over my neck when I shave, which is about the only place I shave. Yeah, I get my cheeks, but they never have any issue. I also have an issue where all these crazy multi-blade razors make it so darned difficult to find where it will actually shave. It doesn't much matter when you're taking it all off, but I need a clean solid line that I just can't get with sensor/mach3/schtich4blademania razors.
Then there is the issue of lather...I cover my neck with all this lather, then it's even HARDER to see where I am shaving. I LOVE shaving my head, but I absolutely loathe shaving that little line under my chin. It sucks.

If anyone has any tips for some sort of clear shaving cream and/or a razor that will help me get a nice CLEAN line for my beard without making chop-suey of my poor neck, I would love to hear your thoughts. I don't think I will try any of these outrageous 5 blade cartridge razors anymore, though. It's the opposite of what I want.

Youre not alone. No matter what I do I get serious irritation, pimples, bumps, cuts, razor burn....My neck looks like a war zone every time I shave. I try to limit the effects by shaving every 3-4 days but nothing helps.

Ive used almost all the razors out there...the best one was the Schick Extreme 3 but they stopped selling cartridges for it most places, and only sell the disposables, which are far less superior. Ive honestly considered electrolysis for my neck several times because it is such an issue.

Xtreme 3 blades are usually available on eBay.  Also, use some shaving oil on the neck to avoid irritation.  Can't guarantee it, but worth a try.

Try Shave Secret (www.shavesecret.com) or Pacific Shaving Company (www.pacificshaving.com), both companies make a great shaving oil that doesn't hide where you are trying to shave, the best part is they work better than any foam, cream, lotion or gel I've ever used. I tend to have sensitive skin that is also acne prone and the oil hasn't given me any adverse effects.

With the shaving oil you could easily get away with using an old school Atra and get the clean lines you desire with no nicks or irritation in my experience.

All the best!

Well, thanks gentlemen for the suggestions. I will look into the shaving oil as I have seen it mentioned elsewhere on the site as well. But I think I will try a trimmer that is meant for edging hair. At the very least I can get a nice straight line with it and be almost bald on my neck with no irritation.

I felt the same way as you until I tried Schick's  new Titanium Trimmer.   The marketing company I work for is doing a promotion for it.  I got to test it out and haven't looked back.  You can actually get a free one just for registering at  http://www.trimflixx.com/.  It is totally worth it.  If not, at least it's free!  ;)

I already bought that thing. I didn't even know about the little razor on the back, but it wouldn't have made a whole lot of difference. The trimmer is a weak battery powered jobber that doesn't actually TRIM my beard. Maybe I have beard hair made of iron...but I have been told it's actually soft.
Furthermore, all razors from this brand have little wires over their razors, which makes it extremely difficult to clean, meaning I need to change the expensive razors more often. I have tried a lot of razors, and this one falls into the gimmick category in my humble opinion...right next to vibrating razors. (I am still curious why someone would want 4 or 5 very sharp razors shaking on their head or face.)

For anyone that cares, these single blades on the back of a whole boat load of blades isn't an answer to anything but the simplest of trimming jobs. Yes, you can straighten your sideburns, but getting any nice curves would be hard since the razor head is so big and awkwardly proportioned.

I just went ahead and bought my Andis trimmers that are used for shape-ups. I might have gone overboard with shaping my beard. hahahah But it WORKS, and it gets it close enough that any of these gimmicky razors should be able to shave up the scraps.

You know JD, I have a pretty tough beard and I have alway had great luck with Shick Slim Twin disposables. They cut a very fine line. They don't have any of those wires wrapped around the blades, etc. Have you ever tried them?

Like you I can't seem to get a good line cut on my beard with triple bladed razors and I have tried them all. I always seem to come back to the Slim Twin for my face. The real nice thing about the Slim Twin is that it has a little push leaver on the top of the blade head that pushes any build up that forms between the blades out. Very convenient. O0

You know what? I used to use these before...and I completely forgot about them! I think I will head to Walgreens today and pick a pack up. Thanks, man. Looks like we have a lot in common...bald, tough facial hair, cool, sexy, and suave! Haha!

I'm actually not sure how long it takes, but I do know that they process the requests immediately.

I also HAD the problem of bumps on my neck from shaving. I eliminated them by using a shave brush, and a nice DE razor. If I dont use the DE I use Gillette Good News twin blade or Gillete Custom Plus. Please go to youtube and look up Mantic59. He will get you squared away on wetshaving.
