Hernia Surgery
« on: July 05, 2008, 08:59:41 PM »
Have any of you eve had inguinal hernia surger? (Groin surgery) I had one back in December of 2006 and overall the results were good until the last few days. Started having the same type symptoms again. I am going to have it checked as soon as possible but if any of you have had surgery like this did you ever have subsequent  problems?

Can't say I have, brother. But good luck. Hopefully they go away or can be easily dealt with.

I've had both sides repaired.  Once when I was 8 or 9, then again on the other side in 2000 (I think).  I haven't had any problems since though, but unfortunately the repair isn't always successful in the long term or so I've heard.

In 2000, I had put off the repair for about a year or so, then one night I couldn't get things back where they belonged so I went to the ER and they put me in for the surgery.

Hi Hammer!

My heart goes out to you.
Never had a full blown hernia that I'm aware of.  Went to ER 13 months ago and had emergency surgery. (big ol' kidney stones)  While the surgeon was pokin and fartin around with my insides he came to the conclusion that I had a lower hernia that was either starting or healing.
I was out of commission for over 3 weeks.  Thankfully I had a s/load of sick days saved up.  While the financial burden was off my mind, that was still the most painful thing I've ever been through.  Hernias and kidney stones are nothing to screw around with.
I sure hope you get feeling better soon!!! O0

Kind of an odd post. "inguinal hernia surgery". Curious; so I googled it. Yep, that's me.

I have a hernia right there in the groin. Not sure how long I have had it; I first noticed it 5 years ago at the start of loosing 40 lbs.; most around the belly. The fat was slowly melting off but the fat in one place wouldn't go away. I finally thought it might be a hernia. It is the size of a softball and still there, but it causes no discomfort or pain.

Three years ago I had emergency appendectomy. When the surgeon came into recovery, he told me about my hernia and would someday need it operated on but wasn't urgent. Last year at my annual checkup I mentioned it to my doctor (but didn't show him) and he said if it doesn't bother me, let it wait till it does. It only bothers me to look at it.

Hi, I had mine done 20 years ago, they put a piece of plastic over it, they use mesh now. Every few months have an ache there  for a few days but it goes away.Everyone I know who has had it done ,because of the nerves in that region has some kind of pain for the rest of there lives.I suppose how much the tear is determines how it heals and how much scar tissue there is,

Never a hernia here but Kidney Stones out the Wazoo and if a hernia hurts anything close to them I feel for ya.  So far to date since my first stone 5 years ago I've birthed somewhere around 8 or 9 stones and they are no fun at all!

I had the same thing about three years ago. Started to get some pain in that region a while back and thought I may have aggravated it. Turns out I just pulled my groin muscle. Best of luck to ya though.
