Original HB vs. HB Sport
« on: July 01, 2008, 01:13:39 PM »
I have owned the original HB (with the pad) since about 2002.. Used it once then, and now everyday since joining the Sly lifestyle. I decided to grab an HB Sport while wandering around the local Wally World (3 bucks cheaper than Walgreens) and was wanting to know if anyone has has the opportunity to compare the two models in real life shaving routines. Is there an advantage to the wheels over the pad? I've noticed with my Orig that sometimes the pad likes to drag a little, especially if the Head Slick is drying out a little. I consider buying the Sport to be on the verge of unnecessary if there is nothing to be gained.. I know it's only 10 bucks, but hey, that'll get me 40 more miles down the road, know what I mean? Any thoughts? I've noticed the Pres of HB on here, maybe he can throw out some research info on the new design.. If no one has any concrete experience or facts on this, I'll break down, open it up, and do a comparison to throw up on the board.. (Marines are used to being guinea pigs, right? LOL)

Did you try it out to compare the two products?

TG, I can only tell you that I absolutely love my HB Sport. I've never tried the original so I can't give you an opinion about it.

Good luck and let us HeadBladers know what you experience. O0

I've used both... I resisted switching to the HB Sport for a few months, but then decided to give it a go after a few years using the old faithful HB original...

Definitely give the HB sport a go!!

What I personally DON'T like about the sport model is the cheapness of the wheels. I have been shaving twice a day for ALMOST a week now, and my wheels are getting kinda wobbily.

You're not supposed to "burn out" and do "donuts" with it J-Man!  :*))

Come on, that's how I get the smooth dome.
Seriously though...do the same blades fit on both models? Is there really much difference between the two?

You're putting too much pressure on them if they are wobbly........been using my since December and no wobble........

That's not really possible. I put no pressure on it. I do shave freaky stylie fast. But no pressure. And the only time there has ever been blood was when I knick my slowly healing pimple. Not too fun talking about pimples to anyone, especially another guy.  :'(

Ok, sorry for the delay in getting back to this topic.. Honestly, I hadn't realized anyone was interested after Sgt. gave his approval..  ;D  So for the skinny.. I did try both, back to back as you might say.. Orig on one day, Sport on the other.. Here's my opinion..  I believe both versions gave a great smooth shave. I've always been a big HB fan, and I don't see that changing any time soon.. The difference lies in the "traction". If you have a really slick shave gel or whatever, the Orig gets the job done.. i think the Sport gives you more of an ability to keep the HB on your scalp with minimal amount of pressure. The Orig takes a little more effort to push around, which COULD lead to some nicks and cuts. Not will, but could.. The Sport takes a little getting used to.. I had to learn to put more of the down pressure on the back finger groove than the front, but after getting that down I just roll it around and it takes care of the rest. If you are having some issues with your lather drying out and the HB needing a little more "oomph" to push it around your dome, go ahead and spend the 10-12 bucks for the Sport. It'll be worth it.. Although, I would really like to have one of those "Sport Ice" HBs.. That's a sweet looking blade..  That's it, go out and get yourself a Sport!!!

I have it on good authority that the Clear HB Sport will be available to the public, just not sure how soon.  O0

I'm thinkin' that being clear, the hairs won't see it coming and try to lay down before they're chopped off so you'll get a much closer shave!  ^-^
