Breakthrough

You guys are right when you say "give it some time."  After I first shaved two years ago, I let my hair grow back because my wife hated the new look.  But I always wanted to go back to being sly.  I kept getting my hair cut shorter and shorter and then decided to go back to the shaved dome two months ago.  Needless to say, my wife wasn't pleased.  But now, after two months, I think she's coming around.  She still doesn't think sly is the best look for me, but I think she respects the fact that I've made my decision and have the stones to stick with it.  I grew a goat thinking that might make the look more palatable and last night she said "keep it.  I like the balance."  The other day at work a guy told me he couldn't remember what I looked like with hair.  People forget quickly.  I guess the bottom line is, if YOU like the look, those around you will come to accept it, and even like it, too.  I get mostly positive comments...now that people are over the shock.

That's what's so great about this site.  A LOT of us are going through this.  This site is the best.  I feel like I've already met some good friends here.

Great post baldy, should be read by every guy new to the sly world.    Thanks.

My wife was not happy when I shaved it off but got used to it. For business purposes, I can keep my hair at 001 (meetings, events as such). Where u and I are in agreement Baldy 46, is that my wife always reminds me nowadays that she can't remember me with hair ever. LOL

I can't say my wife doesn't remember me with hair.  She has some pictures of me with hair around the house.  LOL.  But I think she's getting used to it.  And it does have its advantages.  I was getting my hair cut at least every two weeks and buying gel and shampoo, etc.  Now a bar of soap is all I need.  I know she likes the savings!  Haircuts, like everything else, are getting more expensive.

When you say you keep your hair at 001 for meetings and events...is that because you feel you have to?  I've always wondered whether my slyness would affect my career.  Do you think it does?  I'm getting to the point that I can't even stand a 001.  I like the smooth feel.

The sly look is not always the best for business purposes no matter what anyone says on here. Keeping it at 001 or a tad more is a more conservative look for me especially since I'm an over 50 member. (Don't tell anyone-lol).
Does bald ruin your career or hurt it? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. But in the accounting and political arena, which I'm a member of, I have to be a tad conservative at times. I'm careful.

Another few years it will come off and stay off permanently.

Baldy46, you look great.  Good to hear that your wife is climbing onboard.

As far as business and careers go, I see no negatives with the SLY look.  Thats like saying "I won't do business with a red head".  I saw in your intro that you are a doctor.  Cool.  There is a post somewhere around here that list our occupations.  We cover a very wide spectrum.

Very cool bro! I'm glad you're both cool with it, it suits YOU!

Please a 001 to make you more "presentable"...what's more professional, crisp and clean with a suit than a just shaved prefectly smooth head?

Come on bro...no brainer! ;)

About a year ago I was going through a lazy phase and went to work with 1 or 2 days worth of growth on my dome and was told by my co-workers that I looked "rough".

My wife is cool with it.  She didn't like it at first, but after a couple of days she came around.  She likes it a lot now.  I have grown a goatee before, and she HATES that.  Says it itches her when I kiss her.  whatever.

Glad things are going good with you.  I'm sure Champ will have something to say.  lol

I always think that stubble can look a lot more rough and unkempt than a smooth dome: no contest! O0

Now that I have a smooth dome, even one day of stubble bugs me.  Shaving every day has become routine for me and my wife hasn't said a thing about my slyness in a few weeks...not one negative comment!  I'm very confident about the shiny scraped head now.  And I'm getting more of the "you wear the look really well, dude" comments every day.

I started shaving my head in 1983 and over the many years, it interesting when people you've know for decades mention to you that they have never seen you with any hair and they cant imagine you with any.

Baldy, man, I'm glad to hear your treasured one coming to terms with your decision. It can be a shock for people, sometimes. What's funny is you (and just about all of the bald guys I see here) look like natural baldies. Trust me when I say this man, you DO wear the look well.

Marty, you mention keeping a bit of hair for the professional look. I can't say I see where you're coming from, but I of course respect your view. I have ALWAYS thought the super clean shaved look was one of sophistication. I know a lawyer who keeps his face and head super smooth, and man, with a suit on he looks freakin' sharp.
Anyway, it's your call, and I don't think you can really go wrong.
