Just got a headblade...
« on: June 30, 2008, 10:57:34 AM »
I shaved with the headblade sport yesterday.

Went headbladin.

Riding the furry waves.  ???

Anywho  ::) so far it is working okay. I haven't given myself any nasty cuts of anything. I picked up some atra blades too and am wondering if I should give them a try, cause I didn't get too close a shave from the headblade. Would anyone suggest the atra blades over the ones that come with the headblade?

Also, how do you go against the grain on the sides of your head? Its really awkward shaving up on the side with the headblade! Do you just shave back and forth on it or what?

as far as the awkwardness, you will get used to it.  I shave up along the sides, it is what gives me the closest shave.  I prefer the sensor 3 blades over the atras, and i can shave my head closer with my hb than with any razor thus far.

Atra blades are cheapest, and you can find "generic" Atra-clones dirt cheap. I get 'em 6 for $1 at Dollar General, that's the SAME PRICE as the disposables. Allows me to change the blade more often and save dough.

Remember, though, the adapter only lasts six months according to HeadBlade, and probably less the more you use it. You'll need to order a three pack at HeadBlade Dot Com.

Oddly, the "yellow" adapter for the Atra (Item #2005) is listed at $5.49, but I do not see the "black" Sensor adapter anywhere on the site. Weird.

The headblades are great!  Be cautious though when using the generic Atra blades.  I am a big supporter of them, but I have cut a few chunks of skin out of my head!! @c3!  I have been using the sensor excel blades more often than not.  Occasionally use the cvs m3 blades.  It is a toss up to which of those 2 give the better shave.

Against the grain I just go back to front with the same motion, like going in reverse; just flip the ring backwards.  As far as going straight up the sides, if you don't think the normal HB strokes make it as smooth as you desire, I would recommend using a normal blade -- only takes a couple seconds to finish that off.  The worst damage I've ever done to myself with a HB was trying to do just that.  It is just not the right tool for going straight up the sides.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

I just got one as well for Father's Day.  I have used it a few times, but I use my mach 3 more often because I still have to shave my face.  Plus, I am not sure how I am supposed to cut the hair right around my ears without switching to something else.

I too have found I get the best shave with Sensor triples. I refuse to use a Astra or Astra clone in my HB because those blades CONSISTENTLY turn my dome into swiss cheese
