Yes, his name is probably the most easy in the MLB to poke fun at on a few different levels. I recently read that his name in Greek means man who loves bald heads. Perhaps there was a reason for Zambrano shaving his head!
Carlos Zambrano tempted fate once again—he shaved his head during a hot streak. Zambrano must hope it works out better than last year's hair-related fiasco, which began when he added blond highlights after going 5-1 in July and being named National League Pitcher of the Month. He then suffered through a career-high five-game losing streak, posting an 8.29 earned-run average in his next six starts. After being booed off the mound and ripping Cubs fans following a poor outing in a game against the Dodgers on Sept. 3, Zambrano apologized the next day and promptly got a new 'do,' cutting out the blond highlights. After returning to his normal hairstyle, Zambrano wound up winning four of his final five starts and pitched well in his only postseason appearance.
So after enjoying the best start of his career, why would Zambrano tamper with success? The only media outlet to get the story was Japanese outlet, Fuji TV. When a Fuji TV reporter asked Zambrano why he decided to go with the bald look, he politely replied: "People have to change."
