Drying your razor .

Hi guys ..its been awhile since i posted but i lurk around a lot.

A friend of mine and i were talking last week about how his dad has been using the same disposable razor on his face for almost a year.

He claims the reason for the longevity is the fact that he actually dries the razor when he is done.
Of course i was skeptical but with fusion blades costing what they do i figured what do i have to lose. .. so i put in a fresh blade did my thing and when i was done i used the wifes hair drier to really dry the razor .. i am up to shave 5 and it is every bit as close as the first.
Before doing this i would get 3 maybe 4 shaves and the last one would always be a little rough around the edges.
If nothing else if i can double the life of my blades i effectively cut my razor costs in half.

This trick may be old news for you guys but i just had to share.

Hey Ret.  Thanks for the info.  Actually there was a thread posted about this awhile back.  I try to do this everyday and spray my blades with alcohol to help keep the blades in shape.   It does seem to help.  Don't think I could get a year out of them.

Interesting theory. Water on the blade causes oxidation, which results
in wearing down the sharpness of the blade.
By drying it with a hair drier, you're slowing down the oxidation process. Thanks for posting this. I'm gonna try this and hopefully save some money on my shaving supplies.

Do not towel dry your blades. My wife accused me of ripping up our monogrammed wedding towels with my blades. It almost cost me my marriage. I learned the hard way and now use toilet tissue.

I still think this hair drier routine may be a good thing.
Nick do you speak from experience. Have you tried this out?
Does it prolong the life of a blade?

Wow,  you must have been pressing pretty hard to rip the towels.  Anyway, the towels I use are wedding gift towels (from 15 years ago).  My wife would probably be glad if they were destroyed, anyway.  LOL

I can definitely tell a difference in the life of the blade by simply drying them off and then spraying them with a some rubbing alcohol.

i already spray my razor with some rubbing alcohol after my headshave but i might have 2 try "drying" the blade out by "dabbing" the blades with a towel.  hmmm... hope it works but i seriously doubt that it will prolong it 4 one whole year.  btw... welcome BJ 2 the sly fraternity.  post up in the INTRODUCTION section of the forum so that we can give ya a proper welcome.  keep us posted on your "drying" the razor method.

Yes sir it really does! I have been doing it for a while. I dry it and pour alcohol on it. It helps evaporate the water better. Works like a champ

Nick, I agree, Bro. I bought a little travel size spray bottle and filled it with alcohol. Hit a few pumps of it on the blade at the end of the shave. Awesome and dries out the water immediately.

I blow on the blades to dry them, they seem to last longer when i do it

Same here, Rick. I dry off around the wheels and body, then just dab the blades with the towel in the opposite direction the blades cut, and then blow some air through a few times.

I gone through more hair dryers since I shaved my head them before.
I use them in my work a cabinet detailer all the time. I use it to dry finishes, soften wax putty sticks and Spackle. Go through about 1 every 2 years.
