New to Forum, where to begin...
« on: May 27, 2008, 01:32:31 AM »
hey guys
I've been to several other hair loss forums, but those are mostly aimed at getting their hair back.

I'm 22 and have been shaving my head for 2 years this month. I try to pretend I like it to the public but I actually hate it. People even tell me I look alright, but I can honestly say I've been very depressed because of hairloss since the start of college.

I lost so much hair so quickly I had no choice but to shave it all, and a transplant is not an option (too young).

I still dont have a problem with girls at all, in fact I do really well, but that's not the point. I am confident and people dont realize how much the hair thing bothers me, but this has DEFINITELY been the worst thing that has happened to me in my entire life. I avoid pictures, and sometimes cry (I know I sound like a p*ssy) when I see old pictures of myself from high school with curly blond hair.

I'd like to say its gotten easier for me within the past few years accepting this issue, but in reality I still HATE seeing old family and friends, and am overall a less confident and pretty unhappy person because of this situation. At least I don't wear a hat all the time anymore (I used to). I buzz my hair down to a #0  (the closest thing to the razor)

I guess my question is this: how do I learn to be happy in my own skin again?, especially when I know I'm not as attractive as I was a few years ago? How can you be a happy person when you hate how you look?

I hope I didn't offend anyone in this post, it was not my intent.

Hi,

I dont think you are alone in this at all.  Much of what you have said mirrors how I have felt over the years and it is easy to say, but it does get easier.  I lost my hair only a couple of years after you have and now I am 30 and have no noticeable hair on top at all.

The fact that you have no problem with women must tell you something, and you just need to work at finding that confidence again.  There are many worse things that can happen and hairloss whilst traumatic only changes the way you look.  Very soon people wont be able to remember you with hair at all.

You have definitely come to the right place, these guys are fantastic and all have their own stories to share.

Head,

Remember that hair does not define a person.  I had decent ok hair in my 20's but had no self-confidence when it came to the dating scene (or no dating scene in my case).  You must be doing something right to attract women, so it sounds like you need to focus your energies on something more productive.  As we get older, we are always putting something in the past and moving on to the next chapter.  You need to put hair in your past, as difficult as it may seem.  Things do get better.  You've already done the best thing by shaving your hair off.  I look at pictures of my kids when they were little and sometimes wish they were little again, but that is not possible.  It's also not possible to get my hair back, so I no longer think about it.  I just focus on the possible.  You should too, and we are here to help you on your journey.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

head:  welcome 2 the sly fraternity.  i really don't know what 2 say but i hope that U will B able 2 deal with your issues on missing your hair and missing how U used 2 look when U were younger.  if U continue 2 focus on things U cannot control then U will NEVER b HAPPY in your own skin.  i would just focus on things that U can control.  attractiveness is not all about the physical it's all about what's inside that counts & if U can't relate 2 that then U will continue 2 struggle.  all in all... i hope that U will eventually feel comfortable and happy about yourself.  take care & we'll see ya 'round the sly neighborhood.

Head, welcome to SBG!  Have you tried shaving it all off with a razor and not clippers?  This one act usually has a pretty powerful result on a guys confidence.

The reality is that you can't safely change how your hair grows, but you can be in control of how you deal with it.

I have a question for you.  What was it about your hair that you miss?

Welcome! I know how you feel man, being a 24 year old who is already balding. Keep your head up, your hair does not define you or make you a better man (as you can tell by the fact that you still do well with women).

Try shaving with a razor. I was actually surprised how much better it looked when I did that. It's a pretty significant difference from a the #0 clipper shave.

Hello all  !!
I'm new to the forum, this is my first post. I finally did it !!!  Ive been debating to shave my head for about 4 months, I'm 36 years old, and my MPB has been getting worse over the past few years. I turned into the "baseball hat guy" I am sure some might be able to relate, or know one of those guys. I was nervous about "going all the way" but i gotta say, I absolutely love it, and have got some good reactions to my new look. Its nice knowing there is this online community, where people can talk about there shaved domes. I have a new found confidence in my look, and no more ridicules bald spot.   O0

I have a question for you.  What was it about your hair that you miss?

Head: I myself had some long curly locks when I was younger. And I took it very hard when the effects of MPB took hold of my hair. I wore my hair very short (#0) for many years attempting to hold on to whatever hair I had. But once I shaved it all off it was so liberating I found a new confidence in myself and an even bolder attitude. Now when I see old pictures of myself I don't think "man I wish I still had that head of hair" I know "man I look so much better BALD!

So welcome to SBG you came to the right place. You obviously are attractive (hair or no hair)  O0 otherwise the ladies would be running away.

Maxx: Welcome my bald Bro. You look great! What really took you so long to step to the SLY side?
Tis better to have a bald head than no head at all.
