Favorite and Least Favorite Airport.
« on: May 19, 2008, 03:18:56 AM »
hello fellow baldies...Timm's post about his wife being stranded at Denver airport got me thinking....most of us have travelled a bit and spent a fair amount of time on airplanes..Some more than others. I was just curious to know.

What is your favorite and least favorite airport. This can be based on any number of factors:

convience,efficiency,crowds,price,locality etc. I will start.

My favorite airport in all the ones I've visited is hands down Chicago O'Hare. One of the busiest in the world and the hub of my prefered airline of travel(United). I have flown in and out of this airport dozens of times and I have always had a great experience. The attendents and TSA people are polite and courteous, easy to get to the gates, food is decent(for an airport). I've never lost 1 bag, missed 1 flight or ever gotten lost there.

My least favorite is Denver International Airport. I hate the way it is designed and the subway that takes you from terminal to terminal never runs on time and the lines through security seem to take hours. I have missed 2 connecting flights out of there over the last 5 years :Xo!

Honorable mentions also go to

Best:San Francisco Ordway,Edmonton International Airport,Melbourne International Airport.

Worst:LAX,Cancun Airport(donkey pulling the luggage cart on the tarmac WTF??) and Atlanta Hartsfield.

What are your stories?

My favorite airport is always the one at my destination!  The worst I have been through those is Philadelphia.  I was robbed (pickpocketed) there.

Worst, has to be Heathrow!

Best, a small airport in the Sarawak province of Borneo.  The plane was so small we had to stand on the scales with our bags to make sure we weren't cumulatively too heavy?!

Worst: San Francisco, Heathrow, LAX, Dallas/Ft. Worth

Least Worst (sorry, can't use "favorite" or "best" when it comes to airports): Sacramento, Burbank (smaller airports seem to cause less stress).

Thanx for citing Chicago's O'Hare as your favorite!
That's my kind of town and my kind of airport.  O0

My least favorite airport has to be Newark Liberty. The airport itself was a frenzy, but the 15 mile trek into NYC past all those Jersey oil tanks and garabage dumps was intolerable. I wonder if there's a more scenic route into the city.  :'(

Least favorite - Las Vegas, Sea-Tac (I HATE having to wait/ride a tram after traveling)

Favorite - Oakland (always faster than others but maybe because I know it so well)

My favorite is Mitchell in Milwaukee. Never crowded, polite people, short waits. Second place probably goes to Minneapolis IMO because I haven't flown out of O'Hare in ages. Used to be a royal pain in the a$$. It must have gotten way better since the last time I went through. The worst part was the dirty stinkin' toilets!
Least favorite is Vegas. I've only been to Vegas once, for a wedding, and it has got to be the noisiest godawful airport in the entire world.

As much as I fly, O'Hare is a big PITA... but that's United's hub here and the closest airport to me, so I put up with it.  It by far isn't the worst though...  That distinction would have to go to Dulles!!  Other candidates for the worst... Chicago-Midway, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte, Philly, BWI.

The best airport in my opinion for me is Milwaukee... short lines, friendly everyone, cheap parking, etc.  Other honorable mentions go to Jacksonville, FL, Sacramento, Ontario, California, Columbia, SC.
