Sometimes a duck is just a duck.............

Last evening I got a call from my 23 year old son. He wanted to know if I wanted to meet him in Gettysburg (about half way between us) for a few beers. he was going to bring his friend Scott along (I've known Scott since he was 12 years old).
I speak to my son about every two weeks and we're pretty close. But he NEVER calls just to meet up.... So I said to my wife, "I wonder what's up with him". I figured it was one of two things..... he wanted me to meet his new girlfriend or he needed some cash. His band just cut an EP and I know he's tight on cash.
So I go to the Pub to meet him and in he and Scott walk....... no girlfriend....... I guess he needs cash.
So I put them on my tab and they order up. And we talked a lot about their band and upcoming gigs. After about an hour I said "So what about this new girl?". And he simply replied, "Too early, who knows if it will go anywhere". Okay no info there.
So we talked some more about a lot of the cool new music that is out right now (nothing very commercial by the way).
Then I asked when the new CD's were coming figuring he might need cash to pay for them. "We get them next Thursday so we'll have them for our gig on Saturday". So i asked...... 'Do you need some cash to get them?" "Nope, all taken care of" he says.
So he really just wanted to meet up and have beers with his Dad...... How cool is that? Didn't ask me for a thing........ sometimes a duck IS just a duck.....
(Oh yeah..... i did pick up the tab..........)

I did have a warm fuzzy feeling...... 4 pints of Guinness will do that to ya'!

The band is called "The Crossline" and they play what i guess would be called Indie Rock. You can check them out on MySpace by searching for "the Crossline". They are based in Hanover, Pa..Be warned that the quality of the recordings is so-so. These songs were recorded using a cheap computer software months ago.
I actually heard the master EP before they sent it out to have copies pressed. VERY good!
My son Chris is the tall skinny dirty blonde headed guy. He plays bass and does back-up vocals. He also writes a lot of their songs.
They play all originals, no covers and even though the new EP sounds great.... they kick ass live.
He's a great kid and I'm awfully proud of him. He's from my first marriage but he lived with us from age twelve until he moved out on his own at 18.
They've got a gig this weekend and another next weekend so I'm anxious to get out to see them.

Ahhh, a fellow bassplayer huh? Well then he MUST be a hellofa guy (JDog will back me up on that).
They sound pretty good. His playing sounds good.
Good job, let me know when they tour the west coast, I will go and toast a Guinness in your honor.

Mike, what a great story. It is always a good feeling when someone wants to be with you, just to be with you. I know you are proud of your children. It shows in your posts.

That's a great story Mike!
I'm sure I've shocked my dad a few times by doing that. I may have to ask him for money soon so he doesn't get used to meeting up without consequence...LOL
