Kicking Bad Habits

A new neighbor just moved in next door. He's a guy in his mid 20's. I noticed he's a chain smoker. He goes outside to smoke cause his wife doesn't want the new home filled with smoke. Anyway he has a habit of doing his smoking directly at the propery line adjacent to my kitchen window. There's gonna be a problem come warmer weather when the kitchen window is open! I don't want to start a fight with my new neighbor right off the bat, but I don't want his second hand smoke filling up my kitchen. Can't afford to turn on the AC everytime either.

I lost my grandfather to lung disease, so I never took up the habit of smoking. This guy needs to kick the habit. But it's not my place to say anything about it. Life sucks more without your health...and life sucks even more when you're not here living it.

This got me thinking about trying to kick bad habits.
I'm trying to kick my Ben & Jerry's habit.



Heart disease runs in my family. I'm resolved to drinking 3 glasses of fat free milk for my daily calcium fix. So far I've been off ice cream for 6 weeks.

The only habit that I want to have is my headshaving.
I say it's a healthy habit cause I no longer have to stress about my hair.

I have a thing for Ben & Jerry's too but gave it up a few years ago..... I still have ice cream occasionally but not the super premium/really high fat stuff.

Women and cold beer were my past vices in the past but getting re-married alomost 13 years ago fixed the womainzing thing and when kids came along the beer consumption meter got a little dusty. Now i enjoy my brews with friends usually on my deck with the grill going.

At one time I liked to tussle in bars but I gave that up years ago.....

Good post Tyro. I can empathise with  you too. My downstairs neighbor smokes 2 packs a day and it usually wafts up right into our bedroom. I get a long very well with him and havent brought it to his attention yet as it happens only on the rare occasion but it sure annoys the hell out of me.

I quit smoking over 2 years ago after being a slave to it for 10 years. My only vice these days is headshaving and the occasional deep fried food. I drink in moderation, like Mike, usually when friends are over and the grill is kicking.

Just kidding, I go through vice spurts... for a few weeks it will be rainbow sherbert (current), I had a thing for those Elvis peanut butter cups with the banana cream for awhile... I dunno, I have it bad for those taco truck tacos too... Ezells fried chicken... oh man, I had it bad for that stuff about a year ago... :XX

My neighbor two doors down is a chain smoker.  He smokes in his back yard, but when the wind is blowing my way (and it usually is), the smoke can be pretty unbearable.   I also have other neighbors who like to cook with a lot of garlic and curry at odd hours and I've had that stinking up my house too when the windows are open.

going to college, I decided to earn my way through without taking out too many loans.  next thing i knew i had racked my credit cards up. 

But it feels good to have not asked for money from family and to have EARNED my education.

My worst habit is dipping. Yes I am a dipper. I stopped smoking a couple years ago, and started hanging with a guy who is a dipper. He got my hooked on this garbage. Im going to switch to Nicotine gum.

I enjoy the occasional wager (never habitual), never smoked cigarettes (good for 4 or 5 cigars a year), been faithful to the Lovely Mrs. Schro, I exercise so I can eat what I want (within reason), and I enjoy my beer, wine & schrotinis. So far, so good.

I did get into credit card issues right after college, but corrected that about 2 years after I started my professional career.

I quit smoking a few years back, but started back up last year after a stressful couple of weeks.  "Just one to relax" was my reasoning.  Well, if you've ever smoked you know what that lead to.  I'm trying to kick it again with not much success. 
I do love some beer and liquor.  I do have two beers at night before bed.  Two isn't really that bad for you. 
My worst habit is my mouth.  I picked up a pretty saucy vocabulary in x-ray school at the large county hospital in Atlanta during 1990 - 1992.  It has curtailed since we had children, but it still comes out once in a while.  My wife hollers at me "STEPHEN! Watch your mouth!"

I drink, smoke and gamble so I guess I'm full of bad habits.   >:D  I did quit smoking for a few years when my wife and I were first married.  Then I started smoking only when going out to bars, and it then snowballed.

I dipped snuff for over 20 years, just seemed to fit being a semi-quasi-cowboy from Texas.  Two years ago I decided to quit, and really wanted to.  So, I went to an acupuncturists and it worked for over a year.  Then I got really stressed out, stole a dip from my neighbor and got back on the sh*%.  Anyway I'm now ready to make the commitment again and going to see the acupuncturists again in two weeks.

I quit for 2 years and I was out drinking after a sales confrence and was kinda drunk and thought what the hell I can just have one smoke......BS. It was just like an alcoholic having just one more drink. Back n the wagon for me. I do want to quit agian but its the only thing that I've had a scary time trying to quit.

I quit smoking in Feb 2005 only to start again in July 2006. Now I smoke around a maximum of 3-4 a day. My most important one is the one I have last thing at night before sleeping. I would really like to pack it in completely.

Smoking had a hold of me for a while.  It took about a million tries but I finally kicked the hell out of it when my son was born a little over 2 years ago.
