New here, but after 5 days "sly" I think the slow buzz cut is good, it worked for me.  After 6 months of looking through the remains on top, I tried a buzz, 3/8" first, moved to 1/4" then 1/8".  I spent the most time at 1/4" but soon tired of seeing "shine" like MPB under any light. (I have always sworn never to wear the "hairy toilet seat!).  So last week, it was 1/8" for three days, then clean.  Reactions have been suprisingly mild, except from Spouse!  She'll get over it, I think she's just in mourning, as I was for 6 months, that the mop was in it's death throws.  The mop is dead, long live the shine!  So now driving my convertible it's wind on the skin, not air through the hair.
Question for more "mature" sly guys.  Immediately after the first shave, Fusion Power, I noticed a strange sort of "numbness" all over the scalp, it's going away now, but it was a little strange.  Anyone else remember that response?  I'm shaving every morning now, and at this early point find it very refreshing.  The stubble by the next morning is like velcro although not extremely visible.  I like the freshly shaved feel, that is worth the price of admission in and of itself.
If a newby can advise, I'd say consider going the buzz route.  I got more "talk back" on the buzz than the sly, at least so far, but tomorrow's the first day at the office.

Yeah ... the numbness feeling and the feeling of breezes as soon as you enter a room is normal and goes away for the most part after shaving for a while.  Also, my head was a little spongy feeling when I first shaved and has since toughened up.

Congrats on going sly!  O0

  • thanks guys!! I love ya's to bits <3
Congrats all that choose the sly route. It's a hard decision to make, but worthwhile in the end!!

I have to say.. that I would,  hand on heart, look at a bloke whose head was completely shaved and think "PHWOOARGH!" over some fella that had fluff hanging off round the side of his head.
It takes Balls to go that one step further... but at the end of the day, you ARE gonna end up being the winner!
course, ya gonna get some snide remarks, but ya gonna get that if ya going bald, got a zit on ya face, wearing the wrong kind of clothes, live on the wrong side of the street.... well, SCREW THEM I say!!

or, in proper english... the horseshoe look doesn't do anything for ANYONE!!

all ya gotta do is look at blokes, like andre agassi and Billy Zane (to name just two of a thousand) to realise that fellas with the horseshoe thing, aint got it going on!!!

And, I know, from observing my girlfriends... no-one likes the GRANDAD look!!

baldness oozes sexiness, believe me!! And, I'm also madeover as my bloke took a razor to his head and went the whole way... damn, that head needs a good lickin'!!  ;D  ;)

and I can sure as hell think of one or two guys that could do with a good head licking around here!  ^-^  >:D

Going SLY is the only realistic route you can take. Everything else doesn't even come a close second!

The numbness is pretty much gone, but the sensation of cool breezes, that hadn't been there, is now big time--not unpleasant, just very much there!  Had abdominal surgery once and the cool sensation is very much like the sensation when the nerves are recconnecting and feeling is returning at the site of the where the surgeon made his cut.  I'm wondering if it is possible that the sensory nerves on the scalp are "asleep" when the hairs are the main sense of touch and now  when Sly, are waking up?  Just a thought, any medical Slys out there with an idea why this happens to some people?

I know everyone talks about the numbness feeling and I vaguely remember it.  For those of you who have let your hair grow back and then shaved it again, was the numbness there again.  If so, it's almost reason enough to let it grow back...almost. O0

I think it's actually more of a tingling. I remember the first few hours after my first shave how all the new sensations felt. The breezes really felt cool, as did my leather couch when my bare head first came in contact with it.
Everything is new until your scalp becomes used to all these feelings that were covered by your hair.

Back to the subject, if you are thinking of shaving, just do it.
You will be saying to yourself "Why didn't I do this sooner?", and you will love it. The freedom is refreshing.   O0

Yeah : must have forgotten the feeling of being freshly shaved over the months since i first went Sly. :'(

Still a great feeling of freedom, and feeling clean and slick, but those first sensations: the breeze against your head, the coolness of leather chairs, the water when you first take a shower...yeah!  Almost a reason to grow my hair and become 'newly shaved' again. ;)

Almost...but not quite! 8)

I spent probably three weeks thinking this through. Spoke to men and women; browsed the internet and came to the conclusion that it's the next logical step for a 43 year old blading man.

Of course it's strange and the reaction at work has been that of shock. But that will so give way to an image of a man who is cool, powerful, in control and above all sly.
