Because I am SLY!
« on: April 24, 2008, 06:48:15 AM »
I think some of you guys know this already.  Our community here in Griffin is producing Jesus Christ Superstar this weekend.  I don't sing solos, so I didn't even audition.  Anyway, long story short:  One of the directors approached me in late February about being Annas, the high priest that actually pays Judas to do that nasty little thing he did.  They wanted me to do it BEACUSE I HAVE A SHAVED HEAD!  I said, "acutally, I am sly".

I was hesitant because I had never actually seen JCS and wasn't sure what it was about.  I read the script and decided it would be a good thing for me to do.  And yes, I have several solos!  Have you ever sung into a wireless mic on stage in front of a 800+ seat auditorium!?  I almost fainted the first time we rehearsed in there Tuesday.

Anyway, I have the part and we have been rehearsing like crazy people since it is this weekend.  If any of my Sly Brothers are in Georgia and would like to make the trip to Griffin this weekend, PM me and I'll get you some more info.

I'm going to make my SLY brothers proud. (if I don't throw up....lol)

And just think, if you weren't SLY you never would have had this amazing opportunity.

BTW, My nickname "Dodger" is not related to the team or being a
cunning trickster. It actually goes back to 7th grade when I played the "Artful Dodger" in a school production of "Oliver".

GASlick, once the acting bug hits you there's no stopping you know.
WHo knows what next. Perhaps a production of Annie. OK, we'll both compete for the "Daddy Warbucks" role. May the best man win!

Congrats again bro.  What a great opportunity.  You'll  love playing the villain.  Those are roles you can have so much fun with and really sink you teeth into.   As for nerves, how about picturing everybody in the audience sly....that should help.  lol   Break a leg bro...wish I could catch your production.

That's awesome GASlick!

Reading that GA made me remember the last two years taht I was in the Promise production.  This production involves over 150 cast members. We would spend 3 months rehearsing and then the show would run for 5 nights in a row..a 3 hour show.  It was a lot of fun and the first time I went on stage in front of everyone is very scary.  After about 2 shows or so I finally put all that behind me.  With all the lighting and stuff it makes it hard to see the audience so just go out there give it your best shot and jst have fun with it.  The more dramatic you are the better.  Go out there and make them think you have doen this before.  One thing to remember too is...if you make a mistake....They will not know...you will but they wont..So just go with it.  Good luck ..if you need any pointers about being Judas ...just let me know...he was the first person  i had to portray...as well as one of the deciples and a theif on the cross.  Have fun..

Steve good luck on the role. By renting a few movies with some really awesome villians(No Country for Old Men) this might help you really develop your evil character.

Everything went great.  I was a nervous wreck the first time we performed it, but after opening night I was very calm and relaxed.    I am trying to get some pics so I can load them up.

We averaged 300 per show.  That's a great turnout for a small southern town where half the town thinks Jesus Christ Superstar is blasphemous to start with.  We printed 300 tickets per show and we ran out every night.  Thanks to all of you for your support and I could feel the Sly Love up there on stage.

I'll get some pics up as soon as I can!
