Mixed Reactions

I sent a photo to my sister, and she loves the shiny chrome dome I'm sporting. My hair was already going shorter and shorter. It's odd, but one coworker who is a good friend was giving me some light-hearted crap about my choice to go bald. He basically said it's better to get implants than to CHOOSE to shave your hair off.
Most ladies seem to really like the look, but I work next to a hairdresser, and one of the ladies there I am good friends with. She said my bald head is a low 4 out of 10. But others there claim they honestly think it looks good. So...the jury is out on what other people think. Oh, I get plenty of comments on how smooth my head is and also how SHINY it is. Lots of good-natured jokes about the glare being so blinding. Soon I will find out what my mother back in NY thinks of it all.

But strangers don't seem to make any deal out of it what-so-ever. Not like when I had a giant rainbow mohawk and first arrived in Louisville, KY.

It's a good thing I don't really care what people think of my hairdo, or lack-there-of. I mean, it's always nice when people I care about are accepting and supportive, but truthfully, I don't NEED positive reinforcement for my hair choices.

My family also had mixed reactions. Strangers of course don't really care all that much, but like you I don't really need some sort of reinforcement to make me feel better about being bald :p

EXACTLY... the only opinion that matters is YOURS.  i feel soooo sorry 4 people who care about what others think of them.  wear your chrome dome proud.  i know i will.

the lady that did cut my hair complimented my bald head. she said it looked good. my kids still go there and she still gets my money. just not quite as much. ha

Oh, it doesn't bother me at all that she rated my head a low 4 out of 10. Opinion's are fickle and everyone's got em.

2 wonderful pearls of wisdom from bootedbear... couldn't have said it better if I tried.  J Dig, you are right on about not caring about other's opinions.  Assuming you keep it shaved, being a newbie and all, it won't be long, and people will forget what you looked like with hair.

I wouldn't do that because it could really hurt her. My skin used to be thin, but as I have grown more comfortable with myself these little things that used to bother me just don't, honestly.

Well, it's been over a month, and it's been really positive being slick bald. I did have the friend who is a hairdresser who told me it wasn't a great look, but she was a minority. Guy and gal hairdressers have said it looks fabulous. And I get some stares and smiles from ladies...which I usually try and take some time to talk with them some when they look too long. haha
Some people hadn't seen me in a long time and are wowed at first and then just accept it quickly. Older people are making comments about my "summer haircut" with many of them suggesting they should do it as well.

But most people really just don't care.
