HAVE U started on the yard work?
« on: April 23, 2008, 04:42:45 PM »
hello fellow chrome domes:  the warm weather is definitely here.  just wondering... have U started on the yard work?  i started using the BONUS S several weeks ago and put some new red mulch.  2day i bought a sprinkler at lowe's.  i don't have a sprinkler system, yet.

so... how 'bout U?  have U started on the yard work?  who does it in your home?  do U have a sprinkler system?  if U have kids... do they help?  what's your story?

Yardwork? Why bother? The weeds on our hillside are beautiful this time of the year!  :*))

I did most of the weeding, fertilizing, over seeding, etc. a couple of weeks ago.

Now I am moving on to some of those pesky outdoor projects. I am going to redo our patio in tile or stone this year... and I am really considering painting the house too...ugh!

Fertilizer, crab grass killer on.  Roses trimmed and even constructed a new garden around a fountain.  Mowed the lawn last weekend.  Yeah, guess I've started the yard work.  Wanna help?

It's funny, we had landscaping service for the last two years, but last fall, they really started to suck. So I canceled the service and returned to mowing the lawns, edging, and weeding. Lawns look good, edging is on tap for this weekend, and been keeping on weeding (for the most part). The biggest issue I have is in the back yard. We have a retaining wall that limits our truly useable space in our backyard (despite the fact we pay tax on the 2k SF of land above the retaining wall). Everything below the wall looks great (Star Jasmine smell awesome this time of the year) but we'll likely change out a few bushes this year.

Anyway, the plants around the perimeter of the area above the retaining wall are doing great (escallonias, and a few bushes across the top). But the middle has bitten the dust. I've pulled much of the ground cover (myoporium) and I know there's an irrigation issue. We're planning on blowing it up this summer and starting over.

The wife is bugging me to move rock and plant some grass. She started planting flowers and stuff last weekend.

Although I have a landscaping company do my spring cleanup and mowing, I still do alot myself.

Did some seeding, spreaded 5 yards of mulch, trimmed the hedges, cleaned out my 200' drainage ditch and power washed my house, deck, and windows.  All of that during the past 2 weekends.

I want to replace my back walkway with pavers sometime soon ...

I do the mowing and weed eating.  My wife does her thing with the flowers.  I planted a few new shrubs last weekend.  Now I need to get about 25 - 30 bags of mulch to lay down and I will be set.  That may be a project for this weekend.  If it doesn't rain,.....again......
