Receding hairline, is it normal for a 22 year old?
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:56:11 PM »
I always used to wear stylish longer haircuts and the usually went over my face and such. A month ago I turned 22 and got a haircut and changed my style by backing it up. I couldn't believe what I saw. I have that V shape thing. The right corner ain't bad but the left one is definitely receded! But what got my hopes up is, a week ago I saw a movie with Charlie Sheen called Wall Street and coincidently he had the same haircut as me and the same hairline and was the same age as me in that movie lol. The movie is 20 years old and till today he has lots of hair although I did see his hairline receded more but nothing abnormal for a man his age I guess he is like 42 or so now. That lifted me up but I'm still worried. Btw there is a link below of Charlie in that movie and this is what you can say my hairline looks like with the same hairstyle he got. But could I be heading towards baldness or could I be lucky like Charlie and stay normal.

It's normal for your hairline to "mature" by receding slightly at the temples.  Doesn't necessarily mean that you're going bald.

And so what if you are? It's just hair.

Oh hell no!!! LOL. That style would suck for me anyway. But my only worry is...isn't it to early at 22?

There's really no hard/fast rule saying what's normal as far as hairloss. But, I'd have to agree with Razor's comments.

Plus, bootedbear is spot on.........it's just hair!  O0

Welcome ASG,
To answer your question, no... 22 is not too early. We have had guys in high school come on the forum and discuss. It just depends on your body. Seeing no one has a definite answer (science community) from where the genes come from, I have heard moms side and also dads side, then it could be from generations ago from either side. I can say, my dad is bald and mother isn't, but my brother has a full head of hair... go figure.
Biggest thing is don't worry about it, take control of you appearance. Style your hair differently or clipper it down or shave it. Do what gives you the most confidence in your appearance.
You don't have to be bald to be sly!!  8)

Receding, thinning, sparse hair can happen to anyone at any age. Getting a sharp razor and getting rid of your hair is one of the best decisions you could ever make.

Or, perhaps you could go this route.

Funny, if you listen closely enough to people, you can pick up inherent beliefs (as limiting and false as they may be...)

Well the only time I would probably take it all off if I had a lot of hair loss, right now I would look horrible with a shaved head. I actually had it shaved a few years back, I looked disgusting and had to keep hearing comments for everyone. I don't care what others said but I hated it myself. Unfortuantely I'm not the type it fits. But to you guys it works great. This is why I'm afraid to go bald.

I have never seen anyone who looks disgusting, each and everyone is a human being trying to make it through life in whatever way possible.

I have said this before that I worked with a guy who lost both legs and was in a wheelchair. He was a faithful and dedicated volunteer at the VA hospital where I worked. When ever I saw him I would always ask him, How you doing to day?, his usual response was, "Can't kick", that always put a smile on my face and he knew it would.

Hang in there, there is a lot more to life than losing ones hair, even though it may seem like it is the worst thing at the time. Sly is a great way to go, and I doubt you look disgusting.

If it is receding, why not just beat mother nature to the punch? We've had guys on here who said they started receding at 16, so I'd say 22 is OK.

I'm getting mixed reviews here, some said that those corners on the sides aka receding hairline means you are getting bald and some said it doesn't mean anything. I'm confused lol.

And if it does mean you are balding, does a receding hairline at 22 means I'll be bald a lot sooner? Need some pointers here  :-X
