What childhood toy do you remember
« on: April 10, 2008, 10:19:10 PM »
Hey guys ( and gals) was just sitting here posting up in the bicycle thread. Got me to thinking..what toy did you have in your childhood that you remember the most and wish you still had?  There may be several of them...so go ahead and post them all

What I remember about my toys was Stretch ArmStrong.  I remember getting it for my 8th bday and my lil brother about 3 months later took a fork to it and all teh insides oozed out of it the next time we went to stretch it across the room.  Another toy I remember having alot of fun with is the Rock'em Knock'em Robots.  Some of the simpliest toys were always teh best.  You buy those for our kids today adn they would look at you like you were nuts.  I also had the whole set of the fisher price adventure set.  It came with like a tv newscrew van with the working little camera, an airplane, jeep, van, all the bendable people.  I wished my mom had kept those but she sold them in a yard sale a long time ago.  I seen on some web site where the full set of those sold for around $400 dollars now.

So what did you like to play with whenyou were younger...? And no I dont mean that type of play thing either! LOL

I didn't have this toy, but my best friend did and I wish I could find them.  They were huge cardboard blocks that were painted like bricks.  He probably had about 100 of these blocks that we'd use to make gigantic forts with.   I've never seen them anywhere but his house.

Good topic Timmay..My favorite toy from childhood was my stuffed panda bear called Trashcan.

He was filthy, had countless wads of chewed gum and stains on him but he was with me through some pretty rough times. My mom threw him away when I moved out of home, accidentally. Took me awhile to talk to her again.LOL

I had a stuffed bear named Biff.  He had the pull string and was my favorite when I was about 5.  But the toy I really wish that I had was the little metal pedal car.  The ones you sit in and drive.  That would be worth something now.

Hey Mike...that stuffed monkey...was it the ones with the cloth body and the plastic face and white shoes and holding a bannana?  If so I had one of those, I named him Cootsie. My parents have pics of me sitting on the front porch at about 4 years old feeding it choc. pudding.  Cootsie went everywhere with me.  Cootsie has been long gone for a while now but about 2 years ago my parents found one just like it and gave it tome at christmas time.  Im in love again  LOL

I had an Evil Kenevil (sp?) motorcyle toy you could wind up on a stand and it would take off.  I spent hours making jumps and crashing him into things.  My other favorite was Lincoln Logs.

I had a stuffed animal, named Baby Bear.  Someone at day care pulled his eyes out, so my Mom sewed buttons in their place.  Ragged, sewn together, worn out, but I still have it (or at least my son does).

I had a set of little plastic bricks that could be used to build things.  That along with the Lincoln Logs were really fun to play with.  Stashed away somewhere I still have my wind up train I played with as a kid and a Smokey the Bear stuffed bear that I guess I used to haul everywhere.

tim:  gr8 topic...i always love reminiscing (sp?) of my childhood.  i didn't have the stretch armstrong  or the rock em sock em but i had friends who had them and enjoyed playing it.

pianoman:  i also had the evel knievel motorcycle and my little brother had the evel knievel dragster w/ the parachute.  dang... i luved that toy.

paul:  i also had the lincoln logs.  my brother and i would play for hours and hours with those. O0

in addition 2 the above toys... i also loved playing with my tinker toys, hot wheel cars, ssp cars, ttp motorcycles, the plastic red bricks (can't think of the name), and my SWAT M-16 machine gun.  the neighborhood kids and i would play SWAT & we would go around the neighborhood playing SWAT.   i don't think kids can play with playguns anymore but we didn't turn out 2 B serial killers... it's was just play and not reality.  right guys??

I know that they came back out with them for another generation.  Been thinking of getting another set for myself....for therapy. ;D

I love these trips down memory lane. I don't remember a ton of toys, but the one that sticks out in my mind is LEGOS. I would build stuff for hours. And I'm not talking about the kits that are sold nowadays that make only one specific thing based on instructions. I'm talking about the blocks that came in boxes that forced you to use your imagination instead of copying a picture.

The other thing was GIANT Tinkertoys. I mean, the little wooden wheels were as big as dinner plates and the red, blue and yellow sticks were plastic tubes. They were a lot of fun until one of the neighborhood kids played ShakaZulu with me, turned it into a spear, and missed my left eye by an inch. That was on my birthday (FYI, this same kid shot a BB into my birthday cake, he was a bad seed later in life). We put some ice on my face and the party continued. I had a bruise on my cheek for three weeks. Ah memories!

WOW!  Tinker Toys!!  I loved them along with my box of Legos.  I have not thought about these in years.  I think I need a trip to Target or Toys R Us this weekend!   :)
