Observations of being sly...
«
on:
April 02, 2008, 10:03:33 AM »
I was sitting here thinking how self-conscious I am about being newly sly, and what its going to be like to go out and be in public, go to church sunday, etc... and I started really thinking about the source of this discomfort.
Society has fu<ked with my mind. No doubt about it. I was looking at all of the pictures of other members, and 100% of the time I thought "that dude looks badass bald". Then I thought about people I see on a semi-constant level who are shaved and I have never thought once that one of them looked stupid.
But why do I have so many self-doubts about how I look? Thanks society! F it. Think I am going to go for a run and show off the dome. Enough rambling by me.

Josh-
Remember... this is new to you and you have to get used to looking at yourself with your new look. I think most, if not all of us, went thru this to some extent. That's why so many of us recommend giving the look some time.
Believe me, the shaved look is good on you........Hang tight Bro'

I think you're just being human and certainly not vane. As a cop, I routinely appear in the newspaper or TV news, often in the background at car crashes, crime scenes, etc and I dont like looking at myself. Im always thinking Im just a "Widening" middle aged man that needs to run even more than I do now to get rid of the 10 extra pds I also dont like listening to my own voice. I,ve heard actors say the same thing-thye dont watching they're own movies for the same reasons.
Most folks are too critical of themselves-we view ourselves in a way that others generally dont.
Welcome to a better way with the headshave. I took mine off way back in 1983.

Welcome Josh!!! Read some the post and you'll see that SLYness is the attitude. Not all shaved guys have it. Your pic looks great, don't worry what others think.

It happens bro. Especially for a while right after the shave. Just because it's something new to you. But like the others have said, don't let it consume you and get to you too much. It's much more widely excepted now and the people that aren't excepting it are the ones with the problem.

Josh, you definitely rock the look. Just give it some time to sink in. The shades also look good.

Hello, Josh!
Of course, it's a new feeling for you. But your sly head looks very good. Go out and lighten the world with your shining dome.
As most of us you will get very few comments, and when only positive ones!

I didn't have any problem w/ it, but I can understand some guys do. I'm one of those guys who was SO self-conscious about the "hole in the back" the weakening comb-over etc., that I felt more FREE than anything else. I don't understand the guys who can go out w/ the dying remains of their "hair" at some point I have to think they're going to come to their senses about how half-A$$ed they look and run and shave it off.
You look great, and I bet the feel of the "wind on the skin" made that run feel great--and pushed you to do a better time. "Air through sparse hair" ain't the way to travel, is it?

Josh, you're rockin' the sly dome!
Though, society does eff with us. Just look how media treated the bald guy up until a couple of years ago. Now, we're starting to see a shift in that and you see several sly guys on the screen in a positive light.

Everyone is looking for a BEACON in their life. Shine on Josh. The SLY in you will truely expose itself once the brief adjustment period subsides. You're looking top notch my man!
