Way to go, Birdman!

As far as my experience, I was MUCH more self conscience with my hair horseshoe than I am now. Personally, I love it when I'm the only sly guy in the room.  8)

Im the same way really.  I mean, I was never really self concious about myself...but like paulie said...when i first shaved it...i wasnt as eager to get out.  But I looked at it like..well I cant spend my entire time in the house..so chaulk it up and just do it.  I really havent changed in my clothing style or anything....way I see it....people dont like the way I look....well look the other way.  Not out there to impress anyone anyways....I have my wife and family at home....and if you judge who yor friends are by looks...and not personalities...then you are on the road to disaster.

generally I'm a LOT more confident now than I was before I went sly.  Occasionally I get young teenagers (about thirteen or fourteen) who look at me like I was from another planet (well, arent we all on a different planet to teenagers anyway!?) but most of the time I feel good and walk tall because I'm pleased with how I look.  Clothes seem to look better with a shaved head, too: even casuals look smarter! 8)

A few are thinking self-confident and other self-conscience.

In the crowd of over 600 mostly older women, I was very self-conscience; standing (almost too) straight, chest (what there is of it) out, smiling. Not picking ear wax!

But I am also very self-confident. I know I am being seen and I know I look good; to a lot of older women. And to top it all off, my wife was the prettiest woman there. I am proud of her. And I am proud of the way she holds onto my arm in a crowd like that. I changed my avatar back to show what I mean.

I'm more relaxed, not worrying if the ride in the car w/ the top down has ruined my carefully arranged "do!"  And then also more confident.  The gym, yup--a lot of guys w/ clean shaved heads, I'm just another one.  In other groups, I'm the only "shaved" head, but lots of guys w/ dying mops--that's when I feel, well, superior.  Never "uncomfortable" especially now that my spouse has pretty much stopped griping about the dome.  I still get lots of compliments  :) :) :) :), and that doesn't hurt the confidence factor.

Most significantly, one of the heads of a department recently diagnosed w/ uterine cancer had most of the guys working in her department buzzed down tight, and some are going to finish up w/ the blade.  I gave a couple some compliments, etc.  Maybe the forum should have a section for those guys and also for ladies who are "sly" as the result of chemo, a member's type place where they could compare notes on the effects w/o the fear of some perverts listening in.  Robin Robinson of ABC's Good Morning America is now "sly" for breast cancer treatment as many of you guys may know.  They did a piece on her participation as a model w/o the wig she wears for the show in most instances.  She was really striking, she's tall, and really looked good.  It's something to think about, a little SlyBaldGuys assistance for these courageous women and their great friends who support them.

I really agree with what Rob said.  It's all just better sly.  I am 100% more confident about my appearance these days.

About being alone in a crowd; ...   at first I was self conscious; but after a while ; and  I enjoyed being the only sly guy in the room...   really makes you feel unique (I guess it's that natural love of attention Tyler was talking about --  I guess I've got it too).

I've overcome a lot of shyness over the years.   It took a lot for me to become a teacher; to be able to speak in front of a crowd.   But now I do it with ease.   For me, going sly was like the last barrier to shyness / self consciousness .   Now when I walk into a room I feel like I'm saying inside   "This is who I am, and I'm proud of it,  like it or not . "

I have more self confidence now that I’ve shaved my head.   I think most of us who are not BBC focused on what we didn’t have.  Now that my hair is completely gone, I don’t give it a second thought.  A shaved head is the perfect look for whatever you are wearing (casual to formal).

I am definitely less self conscience now that I went sly.  For the 23 years prior, I wore a hairpiece.  That is the height of self conscience.  You are always wondering who is looking.  Now it is NO PROBLEM.

Umm kinda yea.. Not real bad though. When I first started shaving I had bad bumps and rash so it looked brutal. And then while using Atras I put a huge cut on my head. So when it looked banged up I was kinda self conscience

I was never  self cons. over it the first time I went out into public after razor shaving. The slicker and shinier the better.

I don't think I'm some kind of sterotypical bad ass just because I've shaved my head.

I don't either, but I can sometimes sense that other people who don't really know me think I am.  And then I find myself kind of playing along, to a point.  It's kind of fun when you sense that people are afraid to mess with you.

No, more self-confident is the word that comes to mind.  And I'm sure most of my sly bro's will agree.    O0

Palm Sunday always means a packed church and everyone dressed in their Sunday best. So I was sitting with my family this morning in my new black suit and gazed around at the crowd. It seems I was the only headshaved guy there.

I went the distance this morning and put extra effort in getting my dome as slick and as shiny as can be. But for some reason I felt a bit self-conscious about my bald dome. It probably was the huge crowd that got to me and the fact that I was sitting in the front pew. Have to admit there are still times when I would like to reach for my cap and do a quick cover?
