Those who use headblade, which is better, double or triple?
« on: March 05, 2008, 07:37:53 PM »
I'm taking Nick's advice and switching to a double blade so I can continue to stay sly without bumping (Haven't shaved in a week and a half tryna get rid of them, I hate this :( ).  Do you find that double blades are better for your bumps then triple?  How about the shave?  Is it closer or not?  And Im speaking of Headblade brand double and triple blades here.  If there are other double blades that are Headblade compatible, pleez lemme know since I'm a shaving nublet.  lol, thanks.

Personally prefer the trips.  Got too many knicks with the doubles.   Most guys claim the trips are too hard to clean out though.

Yea, and if one things for sure, I didn't get one cut with the triples, and that was my first time shaving anything so......

One more GENERAL question, can one who has bumps and has given them some time to cool down but they're not all the way gone yet (I haven't shaved since last Wed) shave and then continue to use stuff like Tend Skin to get rid of the bumps reasonably assume that stuff will still work?  Or should I just not shave PERIOD until all the bumps are gone (which SUCKS, my hair is making a full fledged comeback)?  Has anyone with bumps continued to shave and treat the bumps and had them go away....or no?

Welcome SonOfKrypton.  I can't help you much with the bump issue but for me the best blades to use for the HB are the Gillette Atras.  They are compatible with the HB.  For me they give the closest shave rather than the HB trips.  I should know enough about the HB.  I had a love hate relationship with it for over a year before I finally mastered it.  Tried every blade with it and every shaving product with it.  Another suggestion would be to use a little baby oil under whatever shaving cream you are using.  I'm guessing you might be using HeadSlick since you are using the HB.  If you put a few squirts of regular old baby oil in your hand and rub it on the dome good before applying the shave cream it helps protect against nicks and cuts like a champ.  But it will leave some people's head way too oily.  That's why I had to stop using it.

SonOfK, I'm fortunate to be able to use the generic Atra knock-offs -- Personna brand -- with my HB, and for me, they last for weeks.  I finally tried the HB trips, and they worked fine, but to me, I go for cheap as long as I get good results.  The Atra or knock-off Personnas work with the same adapters as the HB trips.  I've always wondered how the double-blade Gilette Sensors would work, but I'm too lazy to order the requisite adapters from HB.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

If you want a double blade that has less risk of cutting you than the Atras, then try the Sensor Excel blades.  They are doubles and provide me a better shave than the trips.

SOK-

Tore myself up with the doubles. Back to the trips and no problems.

For me, ditto what Stu said.....Atra Generics (double blade) have been the ticket. Never tried triple blades, since the doubles have been great!
Sounds like it's a personal perference rather than a general rule for all the SBG's.

Personally, the trips didn't give as close a shave. I use the Gilette Atras or the generic equivalent. The only time I find myself with a cut is when I'm in a hurry, or the blade is just too damn dull and I'm too stubborn to switch it out. That or I forgot.

I really like the triples too.  I also find the doubles more prone to causing a nick.  O:O

I usually use the double blade store brands Atras but found the HB triples at the local Walgreens and decided to give them a try For me I didn't get as good as a shave as with knock off doubles. Like it's been said I think it's a personal preference. I will say that with the triple blades my head didn't sting as much when I put on my aftershave than with the doubles but then again I didn't feel I got as good a shave.

Aright guys.  From all your advice, I went out and bought the GIllette Sensor double blades today.  Will try them tomorrow and report back.

The Sensors will be much nicer to you than the Atras. I caused a dang blood spill with them twice. No more.

I use the cheap BIC single blades, without the lube strip. Their cheap, sharp, and they don't mess around.  I don't recommend them for a newbie, but once you have your technique down they do the trick.
I found this article on Pseudofollicultis Barbae.
http://www.brownskin.net/pseudo.html
"It has a predilection for men and women of African American and Hispanic descent who have genetically tightly curled hairs and curved hair follicles." It's also one of the most common wavers given to new recruits during basic training. Known as a shaving waver, it allows a recruit to forgo shaving their neck so close. "
Good luck, your not alone, hope the article helps.
