Help, Grey Goatee
« on: March 05, 2008, 05:10:32 AM »
Hi Brothers, none of us are getting any younger and I got to admit I have a few grey hairs in my beloved Goatee. I have tried to reassure my fans thats its not grey but a few stray blond hairs but for some reason they dont believe me lol.
So Can anyone recommend a good beard dye? I would love to hear from fellow UK brothers as the products that you get in the US are called something else over here!
Does anyone else on SBG dye there beard/hair etc, bet your woud,nt tell me anyway lol

All the best, Jim

Mine is naturally black, with some red and white.  I use peroxide on it to lighten it up uniformally.

Jim,
I know just what you're talking about, since I have more than a few flecks of grey hairs in my goat.

You have two options.

1] Use a brush in color gel. There are two readily available products on the market. Just For Men and Grecian 5. When I first saw my stray greys I tried both. For what it's worth both products do a decent camouflage of the greys. Just be careful when selecting a color. You want a shade lighter than your natural color. And don't leave the product on longer than the 5 minutes.

2] You can leave it natural and continue telling everyone that the grey is actually blonde strays. That's what I'm currently doing.

Medic aka Rocko recommends using peroxide. Do Not try that Jim.
It only makes the greys white, and they will stand out even more.

Cheers, Tyro

I'd shave it. But then again, a goatee doesn't quite fill out on the Schrodome (looks rather sparse).

Agonizing over what cannot be is an insult to what is.

Thanks for the info, Tyro

I didnt' mean for my comment to stand as a recommendation, I was just stating that was my procedure.  I guess it all depends on what color you want your beard or goatee to be.  I like mine a lighter color (than black), so by making everything lighter the gray or white don't stand out as much.  Actually I wish mine was all white.

I embrace mine!

But my partner uses JFM. It looks ok if you only use it sparingly. If you leave it on too long, it makes your face-fur look like it was painted on.

Like BootedBear, I am embracing my grey.  I used to use "Just For Men".  But when the eyebrows started going grey, I decided to give up the battle.  But I really don't like the Mr Clean look on me that well.  I did it once, but I at least like to sport a mustache.  But I think dark facial hair and grey eyebrows would look weird.  I have seen the other way around however.

I use the just for men and have no problems. For my routine I trim my down and then use the JFM once a week. As it grows you can't see the gray until its trim time again.  8)

I dont think the Opinionated Walrus would be The Opinionated Walrus without his massive grey salt and pepper goat.
