Well, after much contemplation, I've decided to go smoooooooooth. Not telling my wife, am just going to surprise her when she gets home from work. I work nights which gives me plenty of free time to go to Walmart and browse the aisle lol. I saw The Headblade Sport with HeadSlick sample for less than $10 so I figured why not. I've been reading this site for a few days now and am now ready for the jump. The pic below is a little older, I have somewhat of a fro now, would you guys recommend trimming it down with my Wahl trimmer first?
After reading some threads, I picked up the Jergens Glow moisturizer to help with my white head (i'm tan). Also picked up an Apricot Scrub to exfoliate and I already have Bump Patrol at home which works great on the face and a styptic pencil cuz a cut for a newbie is almost inevitable. I watched the Shaving Your Head tutorial on the Bump Patrol website and it was pretty informative so I think I should be OK. I remember the last time I tried going bald (was 16) and man did it turn out to be a nightmare. Major irritation and bumps on the temple and back of my neck.
Wish me luck guys......I'm pretty sure my 14 month old daughter will wake up with a stunned look on her face when she sees me in a few hours (Mr. Mom during the day, IT Crime Fighter at night)

This is me now:

Welcome to the SBG family Prey521,
Yes I definatley recomend that you first use you Wahl trimmer with no guard, before attempting the HeadBlade. Also since this will be your first time useing the HeadBlade, I recomend that you visit their website and watch the HeadBlade 101 video. It's a very good tutorial on the proper use of the HeadBlade. Just remember DO NOT put pressure on the blade, simply let the blade do the work, and use caution when going arround the ears, many people on here use their regular razor for going arround the ears.
Any way good luck, and post up a before and after pic when you can.
Tom.

Welcome Prey...great that you have decided to join the sly side of life. Tom gave you some good advice on trimming down first. Get it to a zero if possible as this will truly smooth out the shaving process. As as he said, NO pressure on the blade...take it slow and easy till you get the hang of it. Good luck with the wife when she sees the new you.

Prey-
Welcome to the site and soon to the family. I'd definetly cut your hair back as short as possible before shaving it smooth. I'm a HeadBlader and love it but remember one thing about the HeadBlade. NO PRESSURE! Pressure will means nicks and cuts.
Man I'd love to see your wife's face when she sees you!

Back from the Chop Shop and you guys are right....this is LIBERATING! I got home at around 6:30am, walked the dog and then started the deed. I think it's time for a new Wahl trimmer, cuz mine took longer than usual to get down to the scalp. I had to finish it up with my Andis Liner to get closer to the scalp.
My wife came knocking at the door and asked if I could make her lunch for her, she heard the shower running and got suspicious, since I'm usually napping on the sofa as soon as I get home till my daughter wakes up. I threw her off by telling her that I was taking Olivia to the dog park and that I wanted to shower before napping lol
The whole thing went pretty smooth (pardon the pun) and I just got one nic from the Mach3 shaving behind my ears. I wanted to cry while I was applying the Bump Patrol aftershave, damn was that intense. The cold water after the shave was pretty intense to.....I swear I actually felt my pores closing

It looks pretty damn good though and I can't wait till the Jergens Natural Glow kicks in to blend in the color.
Is it natural to have small red blotches? They don't itch or anything, may be just minor irritation. After a few weeks, I'll start going against the grain for any even closer finish.
I'll post up pics soon.
Thanks again guys and I can't wait for my wife to get home, it's gonna be a trip!

I heard my daughter wake up, walk into the nursery, she stands up in her crib and gives me this WTF look! It was priceless! She kept looking at my head as if asking "Where did all your hair go daddy"!

Now she's sitting on my lap trying to slap my head

LOL...thats good Prey. The red blotches should go away. Just that your scalp has never felt the blade against it. The Natural Grow lotion will start to work in about 4-7 days. Apply it maybe twice a day to see if it speeds it up any. Im sure you look great. You need to post up taht pic now of the YOU!
Just send your wife in here if she gets too mad....we will take care of her....make her see its all cool
