Is there a way that I can shave against the grain to get that sooth feel with out getting bumps on the back of my head and neck? I have used cold water, alcohol, acne cream that has salicylic acid 2%. That's all for after I shave. For shaving I use a fusion razor and headslick. I even tried it after showering to make it better. With the grain is ok but I want my head to be as smooth as a baby's butt not look like a pimply butt. HELP!!
Ryebread, I know how frustrating it can be when you're trying to figure out what your skin type likes and what it doesn't like. I used to have problems with bumps and redness, also.
I think part of it is just your scalp adjusting to shaving and the other part is figuring out what your skin will accept.
I found that my skin is very sensitive to alot of different chemicals. I always use the "Sensitive Skin" shave gels and try to stay away from using too many creams or moisturizers. I do use some witch hazel everyday after I shave.
I guess what I'm saying is don't give up. It will all come in time. Just keep experimenting with different combinations and maybe you're like me and try to stay away from using too many products.
Best of luck
I was just thinking about this same thing this morning as I shaved. I was wondering if the fellas on here having trouble with bumps were dealing with the initial bumps post-shave, or do they linger? I have some bumps post-shave, but they eventually go away.
I agree with Rick, don't give up and don't try too many products at once also. That can do more harm than good.
You could try a shaving oil like Shave Secret or Pacific Shaving Oil.
Check out my response to "about to give up". I swear by the showerpuff (I used to get pretty bad burn).
I agree with PigPen and SLYinKC.
With all of the products, less is definitely more (for me at least). Try skipping a day or two while your head gets "seasoned" and the irritation should subside. You sacrifice the a day of slick smoothness, but eventually, the bumps will even out and you can get back to the daily shave. Also, I notice if I don't drink enough water, it affects my dry skin factor big time.
