whats up guys im 20 years old and ive been goin bald for a few years now. its kinda rough but i mean, i dont let it get me down too often, unless a girl says she just wants to be friends instead of anything more, then i blame it on the hair. anyways! just yesterday i went to a Hair Restoration Center. they told me all about their laser treatments and blah blah blah but i just dont know. im ready to do something though. im pretty skinny 6'1, 185. and im afraid ill look like i have a terminal illness or something if i go with the sly look. i pretty much wear a hat all the time just cause im self conscious about it. i dunno. im gonna keep browsing the forums cause i know my answers are out there. i just dont know what to do! am i too young for the good medications out? help a brotha out! thanks,
Grant
edit: j/k about the cancer thing, but i have another question.. if i completely shave it will i still be able to use medications etc to thicken it even while its completely bald?

I'ts up to you which route to take, but consider this:
Why take meds or do expensive treatments if you have never tried the easiest alternative of all (going sly)? It'll take you 5 minutes to try the new look and is easy and virtually free. If you like it (and I expect you will) then you problems are over. If not it'll grow back in a matter of days/weeks.
I for one have a full head of hair and after trying it am totally addicted. I have been sly now since June 2007. Once you try it you won't want to go back. No more worries about hair problems or any of that sh*t.
Also, if it seems like a big leap to you, do what i did and buzz it down. I started at a #4 buzz and lowered it one guard setting every other week. By the time I got to a #1 I couldn't wait and went to a zero within days ... a week later I was sly.
Give it a shot

The effectiveness of meds and other hair growth methods are still questionable. The expense is very real and amazingly enough most of them are not only expensive but require you to take them forever.
Male pattern baldness is also a very real condition that will not stop and even if you have the cash to throw it is, you are not going to stop it you will only mask it or in the best case, slow it down.
The time is going to come when you will have to face who you are and it is up to you to do that now or down the line.
Plugs, drugs and rugs... its all BS man... it is a way for soulless individuals to make a lot of money off of your insecurities. If you had a full mane of hair they would tell you your penis is too small, if you are like John Holmes, they will tell you that you are too fat, if your thin they will alert you to how close to death you are and how their magical pill can slow it down... and so on.
Sorry if the truth hurts or you really want someone to pipe up with "here, just rub this on your head and your hair will magically return" but that just is not going to happen.
The best advise I can give you is to learn to love yourself for who you REALLY are, once you do that, you will notice how contagious it is.

I would never take meds just to grow some lame hair. Who knows what kind of side-effects you could get from those meds.
My suggestion is that you give it a try. And as for the terminal illness look, that's all in your head. No sly brutha here looks like they have a terminal illness! The only side-effect you get by going SLY is confidence.
Give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Grant, welcome to Sly Bald Guys! I think before you consider any "treatments" such as drugs or plugs, throughly research the side effects. Propecia will cause depression and the in ability to get aroused. Kinda ironic since the main reason guys take it is to help "look better" so they can get laid. If you go with a hair transplant you will now have scars all over your dome and as you continually lose your hair, you have to continually shell out more money for plugs, or shave your head and display your vanity by showing off your scars.
Like X said, shaving takes a few minutes and you probably already have the tools to do it. Give a shaved look 30 days and I'm sure that you'll love it like we do.

Grantman,
Don't complicate your life with meds/side-effects or snake-oil laser surgeries. Just accept your body for what it is. If women turn you down on the basis of follicular growth (whether it's body hair, head hair, nails, et al) then those women are ignorant bigoted people who aren't worth your time or effort, and wouldn't appreciate you even if you had hair like Peter Petrelli. Give yourself a very close buzz, burr, butch whatever hair cut, when you're ready and reap the benefits of a clear mind and scalp. Now let's beat the drums and eat some granola

d00d i cannot believe all the replies! yall are awesome! i currently buzz it to the shortest gaurd i have, which is 1/8 of an inch, so goin completely slick wouldnt be a whole lot different. i dunno. ive shaved it completely before but it just seems like a hastle to maintain, and i get a ton of razorburn on the back since i cant see what im doin! i may just go have it completely shaved at this sportsclips place down the street for the first time if i do do it. thanks for all the replies though! i will definatly be on here everyday. everybody seems so legit and caring ya know? its awesome. cause none of my friends are balding and i dunno i think i would have less of a problem with it if i wasnt so young. i find myself going back and forth between caring about it or not. i dunno. thanks though guys i appreciate all the input!

Grant...
Welcome bro...give the complete bald head a try... go have a barber shave your dome slick...once you get used to shaving it yourself, shaving it smooth daily actually lessens the razor burn issue...
Just know you're not alone..and there are a lot of real young dudes here, both MPB and BBC (yea some young dudes want to be bald and not because they're balding!)
So stick around and get some good vibes!

Grant,
Do it brotha! I too shaved off a FULL head of hair. And it's definitely worth it.
Look, no one is going to mistake you for a terminal disease patient. But if I can make an out of place suggestion: if you feel uncomfortable with the way you look, THAT is def something you can change, with no snake oils or bad side effects. Consider joining a gym--you don't have to bulk out something crazy, but a little weights and you would be amazed at how much more you like the way you look. After all, at the end of the day, you're the one you gotta please.
Keep us updated, bro. We're with you.
