LOL!  I think under most circumstances there would be a revolt if I decided to grow my hair back.

As for it being required as a moderator, Schro wasn't completely shaved when he became a moderator.  But, he's always been Sly!

Actually it was technically against regulations, but you did see and occasional sly guy, always an MPB though.

I think that rule was changed within the past couple of years -- in the Army at least, wasn't it?

Back when I was in high school, there was a girl that I was friends with whose brother was in a military academy.  He had a classmate who was completely bald from alopecia, and he was almost not accepted into the academy because of it -- because he was not able to get the mandatory induction cut.     

In the end, common sense prevailed and they did let him in.   Bet that wouldn't even be an issue today.

Yeah, the Army changed.  According to the latest verstion of AR 670-1 dated 3 Feb 2005, paragraph 1-8a(2)(a) states "Hair that is clipped closely or shaved to the scalp is authorized."  [Yes, I looked it up on-line.]
But hey, the Air Force allows shaving too, according to AFI 36-2903, Table 1-5 "Cleanly shaven heads, military high- and- tight, or flat top haircuts are authorized. 
The Marines also authorize hair to be clipped to the scalp or shaved if desired.
The one regulation I couldn't understand was the Navy   I couldn't find where it specified head shaving.  Maybe someone who understands the Navy regs can weigh in on this one.

Am starting my 27th year combined Regular Army and Army Reserve time.  As far as I can remember, NONE of the services ever forbade it-Idont recall ever seeing it specifically spelled out in any of the older regs.  Now, with that in mind, the arguing use to be some supervisors/leaders who tried to alter the regs to thier "liking".  I remember one stupid female Army military intelligence company commander who made the mistake of trying to forbid her male Soldiers from even wearing crewcuts and flat tops becaause she didn't like the haircut. She was a liberal who came into the service for a job and thought that crewcuts/flats/shaved heads were assoc. with thr German Nazis.  She was damned clueless, a product of affirmative action and didnt last long.  She didnt get her way either! This was 1984-85 when I was shaving bald. In the early 80s there were always a number of officers and NCOs that shaved daily on every post and I was one of the them.

In the new AR 670-1, the army just added the words that specifically state total head shaving is allowed.  The old reg did not DISALLOW it-essentially the same difference.

Marine Corps regulations used to state that a male Marine's hair was to graduate from 0 inches at the sides to no more than 3 inches on the top.  It also stated that a Marine could not be required to shave his head except in boot camp and for those men who went through Drill Instructor school.   Totally shaved WAS possible but generally not looked on as the norm and it could influence a seniors attitude.   Greatest Sergeant Major I ever served with was sly but he had MPB and at his rank no one was going to say much.   In the Marine Air wing, high and tights and flattops were very much the exception when served with them.  Since I transitioned over to the Wing after ten years with the Ground side, that is what I wore.

Forgot to add that I worked with completely shaved Marine officers and Air Force NCOs in 1983. The Air Force master sergeant was a crewchief on a C-130 we were taking to beautiful, balmy Fort Irwin CA in 1983 right after the NTC opened there.(Fort Irwin is just north of Death Valley).

TOTALLY SHAVED AIR FORCE???    That I would have to see.   Were they CCT guys?

Just a routine transport as part of trip from McChord AFB down to then Norton AFB(closed down now).
