Cheers!
« on: January 09, 2008, 02:01:39 AM »
OK people let's talk drinks.  Liquor, beer, cocktails, wine, whatever your poison, let's hear what you love, why you love it, and how you consume it.  I personally am a sucker for all kinds of whiskeys, neat in an "old-fashioned" or rocks glass.  Discuss!

Also if you're interested at all in all sorts of mixed drinks, their history, and the rituals surrounding their consumption, head on over to http://www.drinkboy.com/ and see the master Robert Hess at work making some awesome drinks.

A topic dear to my heart there MrBlonde.

I enjoy all forms of alcohol(in moderation of course, well most of the time).

Favorite Domestic Beer-Rolling Rock
Favorite Import-Sol(Mexico)
Favorite Cocktail-White Russian
Favorite Rye/Whiskey-Tangle Ridge(Canada)
Favorite Bourbon-Makers Mark.

I hardly drink Vodka or other clear spirits.

I will drink wine if it is there however I never buy wine. My wife enjoys Rose, which is a wine made from Red and White grapes.

I also enjoy a good Whiskey Sour

I'm currently drinking a grey goose and soda.  I would be drinking effen black cherry and soda, but they don't have it.

I'm also a big fan of beer when it's stout, brown, or a porter.

Not a regular beer drinker (except for Bears Games) but my favorite beers are:  Guinness Stout, Whitbread Best Bitter (when I can get it) Genesee Cream Ale, Bud.

For normal consumption I am a big fan of Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey and Red Rhine Wine

Not a mixed spirits sort of guy! Just wine, beer, and whiskey for me. And an occasional bottle of champagne for me and the misses.  :@`

If I do order a cocktail, it's usually a Long Island Iced Tea with an extra shot of tequila .
Yesterday at lunch a colleague of mine suggested I try a Harvey Wallbanger. :-\
Seriously guys, that's a real drink.
According to legend, Harvey was a California surfer. After losing an important contest, he consoled himself in Duke’s Hollywood Blackwatch bar with one of his “special” Screwdrivers (a screwdriver with a dash of Galliano liqueur). After several drinks, he tried to leave the bar, but unfortunately kept bumping into the furniture and walls. Harvey “the Wallbanger” became his nickname and the famous drink was named.

mr. blonde:  thanks 4 recycling this topic from the original...ar3inc & young_n_sly.  it's a good topic 2 discuss.

favorite beer:  heineken, grolsch, killian's red, sam adams, corona light

mixed drink:  vodka / cranberry juice  (smirnoff, absolut, ciroc,, svedka) haven't tried grey goose but i'll definitely try it one day.

rum and coke was my former drink of choice but since 2 years ago it has got me sick...so i put it down and went with the vodka.

every now and then ....i like 2 sip on some white zin. with the wifey.

oh, and to contribute:

i love me some tequila. straight, or with coke, it's quite tasty. although i tend to drink it more often as a party drink.

for beers, i'm a big fan of sierra nevada beers. their pale ale and porter are pretty awesome. but the beer i drink most often is the wonderful yuengling -- it's cheap and delicious

Beer--Abita, Turbodog preferred, Amber great if by the keg.
Scotch, blended--Dewars
Single Malt Scotch-The Glenlivet--I know it's not one of the "snobby" ones, I just like it.
Gin--Sapphire--preferably in a 5 to1 Martini, w/ a twist, no olive.
Rye (for Sazarac's only) Old Overholt
Bourbon, sour mash or otherwise--I would not drink at all if this was the only kind of hard booze.
Rum-don't drink--gives me a headache before a buzz.
Vodka--anything that doesn't have flavor--not for use in a "Martini", Vodka and vermouth=a Gibson & I won't touch them, but nice in ICBM's
Brandy--only thing for milk punch at a New Orleans style breakfast.
Wine--Anything that Penfold's puts out, very reliable reds and whites.  Montrachet's if someone else is paying!
After dinner & sweet booze--Port--tawny as good as I can afford, Madiera same, Ojen[pronounced Oh Hen]--w/ Peychaud bitters over ice ( they call it "frappe" or Ojen cocktail), an old favorite during Mardi Gras.
